Canadian multi-instrumentalist and composer Andrew Wells-Oberegger performs in Sheldon, VT on September 4

Sheldon, VT – Canadian multi-instrumentalist, composer, musical arranger, and producer Andrew Wells-Oberegger brings his acoustic, cinematic world music to the Summer at Grace Episcopal Church concert series in Sheldon, VT on Friday, September 4 at 7:00 pm. He performs his own compositions from the album Déjouer le glas, released in 2024. This is a silky, radiant album with pieces that shift from melancholic and mysterious to contemplative, luminous, and poetic.

“The album was written in a state of doubt and introspection,” he shares. Following an illness, he says, “My body has been a battlefield; it has been ravaged. I’ve experienced a rollercoaster of emotions over the past few years. During this difficult journey, I felt gratitude for everything that is important to me: my family, my genuine friendships, and music.”

Known for his mastery of an impressive variety of instruments – such as classical guitar, renaissance lute, oud, bagpipes, saz, mandolin, bouzouki, and santoor – Wells-Oberegger has been professionally involved in the early and world music scenes for more than 20 years.

Relying on a solid academic training coupled with his knowledge of international musical traditions, he has worked with various ensembles including La Nef, La Mandragore, ESEM, Cercamon, De Lònga, and La Strada. For this concert, he will be joined by Pierre-Alexandre Saint-Yves on chalumeau (a Baroque woodwind instrument) and voice.

A lover of ancient music and instruments from diverse cultures, Wells-Oberegger was influenced by artists like Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Grizzly Bear, Anouar Brahem, Peter Gabriel, Erik Satie, Maurice Ravel, and Aram Khachaturian.

Most attendees of Summer Music at Grace concerts know the late Pete Sutherland and have seen him perform at our opening concert, the annual Farewell Reunion, hosted by Mark Sustic. From our friend and Farewell Reunion organizer-host comes a film about Pete and his life's work. Here’s an update on The Endless Chain, a film celebrating the legendary Pete Sutherland: https://www.petesutherlandfilm.com/

We’re delighted to let you know the film is nearing completion. But there is still much more to do and we’ll soon begin the post-production processes of sound mastering and color grading. These tasks are expensive and we rely on donations to fund these processes. The Vermont International Film Festival (VTIFF) serves as the fiscal sponsor of the film, so all donations made through VTIFF are tax-deductible.

Donations that were received by April 1, 2026 will be referenced in the film credits; those received after still have our deepest appreciation.

Pete was a strong believer in mentoring. There are segments in the film that focus on Pete’s mentors during his musical development as well as Pete’s own role as a mentor. As Pete wrote, “What is mentoring to me? It goes beyond the transmission of tunes, songs, chord patterns….. Above all it’s about EMPOWERMENT. It is an honor and privilege to be part of a mentoring community that does so much to nurture and empower a community like ours many times over.”

Please help us share Pete’s story. You can watch the film’s teaser and make your tax-deductible donation to the film at The Endless Chain.

The Endless Chain is a documentary being produced to take viewers on an intimate journey into Pete Sutherland’s life and artistry. In the film, Pete reflects on his lifelong journey of making music, his philosophy of teaching, and his dedication to preserving and evolving musical traditions. Throu...
