Not my normal wedding gig but oh so special! Yesterday my baby sister got married! Their intimate dream celebration with family and friends didn’t call for a raging dance floor. But I had the honor of playing guitar and singing the bridal processional for the ceremony. We had fantastic weather by Lake Superior that served as a beautiful backdrop. Back in the day my sister helped me out with a bunch of events including several weddings. It was a beautiful full circle moment to now celebrate HER. Congrats Leslie and Mike. The Stover Six love you very much and had a blast celebrating you!

🎉 FIVE YEARS STRAIGHT. 🎉

Stovetop Productions has been voted Best DJ Service in Northwest Iowa once again, and we’re incredibly grateful! ❤️

Winning awards, especially winning 5 years in a row is something I never could have imagined when I started DJing college parties back in 2009.

Awards are nice. Recognition is nice.

But what means the most is knowing that couples, families, schools, organizations, and communities continue to trust us with some of their BIGGEST moments.

From wedding ceremonies and receptions to proms, school dances, community events, fundraisers, and everything in between, THANK YOU for inviting us into your celebrations year after year.

This award has “my” name on it, but it certainly isn’t mine alone.

A huge thank you to Kim and McRay for everything they do behind the scenes and on event days. From hauling gear and setting up rooms to managing requests, helping guests, solving problems, and keeping events running smoothly, they make Stovetop Productions better.

And while we’re talking about gratitude, a BIG shoutout to Donnel Eaddy

For 10 years we rocked dance floors together. He helped lay the foundation for the DJ, business owner, and entertainer I am today. So much of what Stovetop Productions has become can be traced back to those years learning, growing, and celebrating alongside him. I wouldn’t be here without that chapter of the story. 🫶

The reality is that no great event happens because of one person.

It takes a team.

It takes great clients.

It takes packed dance floors.

It takes people willing to sing, dance, celebrate, and make memories together.

Most of all, it takes trust.

So thank you.

Thank you for voting.
Thank you for believing in us.
Thank you for letting us be part of your stories.

And ultimately, I thank God.

For music.
For reasons to celebrate.
For community.
For families and friendships.
And for bodies that were made to move when a great song comes on. 🎶💃🕺

We’re honored every single time.

Maybe we can make it six next year. 😏 But for now I’m thankful, grateful, and humbled once again.

When celebrating Camryn Draaistra and Josh Draaistra not too long ago I had this random question pop into my mind… 🤔Do you think Taylor Swift was sitting in a writing room thinking:

“You know what this song is for? A future where 150 wedding guests form a giant circle, scream every word, and basically create a wholesome mosh pit.” 😅

Because that’s what Love Story has become.

The opening hits and people don’t just dance.

They CONVERGE.

Friends grab friends.
Bridesmaids lose their minds.
Grooms who swore they weren’t dancing suddenly know every word.

And before you know it, there’s a giant singing, jumping, spinning mass of humanity in the middle of the dance floor.

It’s honestly one of my favorite wedding song phenomena.

Because unlike some songs that come and go, Love Story has survived multiple years of weddings and still gets the same reaction.

A song written about a love story becoming part of thousands of REAL love stories.

That’s pretty cool when you think about it. 🫶🎶

Also, let’s be real…

If a wedding crowd DOESN’T scream “HE KNELT TO THE GROUND AND PULLED OUT A RING…” at maximum volume, did the song even happen? 😂

One thing that’s always appreciated as a DJ?

Real-time feedback. 😅🎧

Sure, reviews are awesome.

Messages after the event are awesome.

But there’s something uniquely satisfying about getting confirmation right in the middle of the party that says:

“Yep. We’re cooking.” 🔥

This guy hit me with the universal sign for “keep doing whatever you’re doing.” He aaked me earlier in the night for some 2010s EDM.

I pointed back.

No words were exchanged in that moment.

None were needed. 😂

It’s a small thing, but when you’re constantly reading the room, watching reactions, making adjustments, and trying to keep the energy moving, little moments like that are fun.

It’s basically the dance floor’s version of a fist bump.

Message received, my friend. 🫡🎶

Picture this: Cotton Eye Joe is blasting, the dance floor is full of line dancers, and then out of nowhere I drop You Belong With Me. 😅🎧

The reaction was instant.

One of my favorite things about open format DJing is seeing what happens when two completely different worlds collide.

This time it was Cotton Eye Joe into You Belong With Me.

It worked way better than it probably should have. 😂

One minute people are line dancing.

The next minute they’re screaming Taylor Swift lyrics at the top of their lungs.

That’s the beauty of weddings.

You’ve got country fans.
Pop fans.
Hip hop fans.
Classic rock fans.

And for one night, everybody just wants to have fun together.

Also, the bride is a Swiftie, so there was no way we were making it through the night without getting some Taylor in the mix. 🫡

The singalong at the end says it all. 🎶🫶

Slow songs aren’t trendy these days, but I will defend a great ballad every single time. 😅🎶 Not sure who this guest is from Hannah and Brad’s wedding but she’s my favorite 😂
There’s just something about the song “Iris.”

It’s timeless.
It’s meaningful.
And somehow everybody knows every single word.

Not just the chorus.

ALL of it. 😂

That’s what makes it special.

When Iris comes on, people don’t just hear it. They feel it. Shoot, I feel it!

Couples wrap their arms around each other.
Friends sing it shoulder to shoulder.
People who haven’t thought about the song in years suddenly remember every lyric.

For three or four minutes, it becomes THEIR song.

I love a packed dance floor. You all know that.

But weddings don’t have to be all chaos and party music.

Leave room for some moments too.

Leave room for connection.
Leave room for memories.
Leave room for people to hold the person they love and sing along to a song that means something.

Slow songs still have a place at weddings imo. 🤷‍♂️

And if you’re building a wedding playlist, Iris should be pretty high on the consideration list. 🫶

Cotton Eye Joe 🤝 Blue Strips at a wedding reception because…why not? 😏 At this point, trying to mix the most random possible songs into Cotton Eye Joe has become a personal challenge of mine. 😅🎧

Because somehow that song can absorb absolute chaos and still work.

This time it was Blue Strips by Jessie Murph and the reaction was immediate! You can tell by the couple sitting next to me that stopped mid conversation to sing. 😏

Instant singalong.
Instant energy shift.
Instant “wait… why does this actually slap?” 😂

That’s the fun of open format DJing.

Taking songs from different worlds and eras and finding ways to connect them in a way people never saw coming.

Sometimes the weird ideas end up being the best ones. 🎶🔥
