This was quite a challenge for me, but a worthy & worthwhile one. A lot of time went in to this piece - measuring & stitching leather is such an interesting craft. The leather wants to move in its own way, and hand stitching isn’t foolproof like a machine stitch is - it’s a matter of flowing with the leathers movement ✨
Part of the reason that I love working with this medium, is the connection that I feel to each piece made, through the energy of the animal that lived & breathed life into its creation

What a beautiful way to honor the life of this creature - to use its body to support our own growth through this connection. Important to clarify that the leather I use is not from animals that were killed for their hides

Happy to have created this custom order for my brother Cal, the one who inspired me & got me into working with leather back in 2016. The first piece of work I crafted was my own power piece - a medicine utility belt (See below). I told Calvin what I envisioned, drew the image of it, and he guided me through the basic steps to complete it. I self-taught myself to hand stitch and design. This was at a pivotal time in my life when I was healing from Lymes disease, using herbal methods & on my own accord. This form of crafting work brought deep healing, and reconnection to my native ancestors. I learned that working with my hands is critical to my well-being & nature ✨🙏🏼🦌

Today, I completed my very first wallet & it being for him brings me great joy. He inspired this creation, and I already have an order for the next wallet to be made. Such a gift it is to have a brother to learn from ✨

Grateful to share the story of this beautiful cuff, custom made by request for Kori Gelinas. I had yet to make a cuff when Kori inquired about me making her a power piece.

The manifestation of its form came forth from the reflection of her energy, via her work in the world, her medicine as a healer & womyn - observing the weaving that can take place between womyn and through ceremony, through her Medicine Womyns Retreat has influenced my path as a healer deeply. It was an honor to channel that into this piece.
