Many couples yearn for a bright, airy wedding sprinkled with pastels and all things spring, especially during January. Thankfully Jordan and Kara are not "many couples". Dark and slightly brooding, modern, yet timeless, with a hint of innocence...just like Christine when she first set her eyes upon the mirror. That was the vibe and I was HERE for it.

I immediately knew it was going to be special day from the moment we met, but I truly had no clue how much. Not only were they wildly kind and easy-going, the two of them seemingly checked all of my boxes! Bourbon and Broadway? Hell YES!

The night had more than a few surprises (big ups to Katie and Nathan!!), but, a la Jordan, I won't be able to do this justice with mere words. So...enjoy the video!

Thank you both for trusting me with this incredible journey. Thank you for being down for literally anything. Most of all? Thank you for finding each other. Being there felt more like a gift to all of us than it was for you.

While hanging a TV in our living room one night I got a call from a lovely woman named Nancy.

As is often the case, we didn't talk about wedding stuff at all. We talked about life and at the end of the call she told me she couldn't imagine anyone else being there for her wedding.

Fast forward a bit and I got to meet her fiance and we could have known each other for 20 years. Everything clicked.

It's funny how that works with good people.

Speaking of good people? Their wedding day was full of them! Friends and family who had seen both of them go through countless trials and tribulations, dodging more bullets than most people ever dream of, and battling enemies we can scarcely imagine. They saw these two finally find their peace in one another and I was reminded, repeatedly that night, that love isn't something you find, it finds you when you're ready for it.

I'm so glad it allowed these two to find each other.

Congratulations and all my love you two, I was so honored to be with you that day.

But Jim? I really want those blue suede shoes!!

On a cold, snowy, Packers/Bears playoff Sunday a hundred or so people got together to celebrate one of our greatest treasures - love. And holy crap, did they celebrate!!

The tone was set early with laughter and warmth that could melt an iceberg, so I knew this was going to be a good good one.

I love being right.

This group, with a little break to watch the end of the game/have a snack, danced for 5 hours! What's crazy is there might have been more energy after the game than before - truly a testament to how much they all love these two, and it's no wonder.

With a love story that's truly larger than life, getting to know these two was such a joy. Which is good because I was basically near death on their wedding day (We. Don't. Cancel!). In my haste I did forget my bucket hat, but make no mistake (Liv), it totally would have completed the ensemble. Lol

So, we get wedding leads from all over - local colleagues, past clients, Google searches/wedding sites...but this was a first. A very good DJ friend of mine who lives on the complete other side of the country says "My niece is getting married and I'm booked. I need someone I trust. Are you available?"

You're damn right I am!

That's where this incredible journey began. I got to know this wonderful couple, learn about their families, their future dreams, and most of all, and their love story (which is seriously an incredible one).

Then? Then I got to party with a group who didn't have "it's too hot" and "I'm tired" in their vocabulary. The day was hot hot hot, hence me looking like I belong on a boat (suits were not an option that day), but man...it felt like the coolest day ever. And a bonus? My buddy obviously didn't get to come here, but his WIFE DID!! And I got hugs, ohhhhhh did I get HUGS.

Thank you for trusting me and thank you for allowing me to be a part of not only your day, but the whole wedding experience. I will never forget it!

Montello Junior Prom

So, picture this. I'm at the Mall of America with my family for a quick Spring Break. My wife and kids are on a ride in the middle of the mall that would 100% make me get motion sick, so I'm sitting on the side responding to a bride while watching the stroller and I get a new email asking about a prom for...Montello High School? Ok, off to Google Maps I go. Then I Google "Montello High School Population"...and I'm like, no way they're going to think I'm worth it.

Little did I know I was working with an absolute DYNAMO of a student (I swear I thought she was faculty because of how professionally she handled herself) who was unwilling to let another year go with a boring prom. So...we made sure it wasn't. :-)

We also made sure the student body knew that this girl, Veronica, was the reason this was all possible. They responded appropriately by absolutely SCREAMING "thank you". A well-deserved response to a young lady who freaking EARNED it.

They had LED sticks, CO2, uplighting, photobooth, and my stupid loud self...and they absolutely ate it up! I'd say they left no crumbs, but the after party proved otherwise (THANK YOU FOR THE PLATE OF DELICIOUSNESS - that ride home was so tasty)...ha.

Just another example of . :-)

I had so much fun planning with Brad and Jenna, (ok, mostly Jenna), so when the day finally rolled around I knew it was going to be fun, and it definitely was!

I often tell couples you can tell how much fun a wedding is going to be from the Wedding Party and man, this Wedding Party was way way fun. They were funny, quick witted, and willing to go along with anything...so you know I was loving that! The boys loved to mess with each other, including me, so it was just a riot. Don't worry, no one was fighting - all in good fun!

First time at this venue and would definitely go back - amazing staff, really beautiful barn style with modern amenities...just an absolutely fantastic day.

First time getting to work with Simply Country Barn and CZ Photography + Film as well (though she's had to endure being next to me at a wedding expo...) AND KeepIt Photo Booth. The latter was especially exciting because I had partied with them both at a wedding I DJd many years ago - so I knew it was going to be fun! Spoiler Alert: It REALLY was.

Congrats Mr and Mrs. Kautzer - Thanks for having me!
