| Ashley Callingbull, an Enoch Cree Nation member from Alberta who made history as the first Indigenous Miss Universe Canada in 2024, called out organizers at the 2026 national pageant in Toronto over cultural appropriation. 👑 Non-Indigenous contestants wore traditional First Nations regalia and sacred headdresses during the national costume segment. 🪶 Callingbull directly addressed the audience and management during the event, emphasizing that sacred Indigenous attire should never be used as costume wear.

In response, pageant director Sonny Borrelli issued an apology on behalf of Miss Universe Canada, taking full responsibility for the oversight. 🕊️ The organization pledged to establish a formal Costume Guide and appointed Callingbull as their official cultural liaison to ensure Indigenous heritage is respected in future competitions. ✨
