🏠 🎶 Somewhere in these photos are the beginnings of a musical.

A pilot. A passenger. A neighbor with an extra chair. People who expected an ordinary day, then found themselves sharing meals, trading stories, making new friends, and figuring things out together.

In 2011, ten years after September 11, 2001, writers Irene Sankoff and David Hein came to Gander to listen. They gathered memories from residents, travelers, and crew members, then shaped those voices into Come From Away.

Some stories became recognizable characters. Others were woven together for the stage.

That’s what makes this story feel so alive. It's not only about a remarkable moment in history. It's about the people inside it: funny, tired, generous, worried, hopeful, and unexpectedly connected.

The music begins with a place. The story belongs to the people. 💛

🌭 🍔 Our Brat Fry Hype Team dressed for the role.

The fundraiser is happening right now until 2:30 p.m. at the Miesfeld's Brat Hut! Stop in for a brat, burger, baked treat, or all three. We’re not here to judge your lunch decisions.

Today’s menu supports much more than a good meal. Every purchase helps fund the sets, costumes, supplies, and behind-the-scenes details that bring our productions to life. It also helps us keep participation open and accessible, with no fees or required volunteer hours for performers.

Come grab lunch, say hi to our very committed Brat Fry Hype Team, and help us keep the stage well-fed. 💙

Before the passengers could leave the planes, Gander had a problem no town its size should have had to solve.

How do you feed nearly 7,000 people? Where do they sleep? How do they call home when the world has changed in the space of a morning?

On September 11, 2001, after the attacks in the United States brought air travel across North America to a halt, 38 planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. The response came through thousands of ordinary decisions. Schools and churches became sleeping quarters. Residents brought meals, bedding, clothing, toiletries, and rides. People made room. 🫶

That is the true story at the heart of Come From Away.

This fall, we’re bringing that story to the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre. Each week, we’ll look beyond the musical to the real people and small decisions that made Gander’s response possible, then consider what those acts of welcome can ask of us here in Sheboygan County and beyond.

A welcoming theatre takes a community behind it.

STC’s Brat Fry Fundraiser returns to Miesfeld's Brat Hut on August 29, from 9 AM–2:30 PM. 🌭

Support from fundraisers like this helps us create opportunities for people to be part of theatre without participation fees or required volunteer hours. It helps make room for the first-time actor, the person learning a new skill backstage, the volunteer who finds their creative community, and the audience member who sees themselves in a story.

Stop by for lunch, sign up to work a shift, donate goods or supplies, or make a cash gift. Every way you participate helps keep STC growing, creating, and welcoming more people into the story.

🗣️ We’re looking for a Lighting Designer for Come From Away!

A story about strangers becoming neighbors deserves a little extra light, and we’re looking for the creative collaborator who can help bring its world to life onstage.

We have a new LED lighting system ready to shine, a stipend is available, and you will not need to run the light board during performances.
