🪡We're pleased to announce that Stephanie Katterhenrich will be joining us at LIVING TRADITIONS ATHENS COUNTY. She's going to show us how simple sewing techniques can repair, strengthen, and transform everyday items! This is an all levels-friendly presentation that explores practical hand-sewn and machine-sewn repairs for clothing, household textiles, and accessories.
🧵You'll learn the difference between repairing, mending, and upcycling while exploring useful techniques such as patching, darning, button replacement, seam repair, and basic machine stitching. We’ll also explore the beauty and history of Sashiko and Boro, demonstrating how visible stitching, layered patches, and reclaimed fabrics can turn damage into a creative design feature.
🪢The presentation will conclude with upcycling ideas that give worn or unwanted textiles a new purpose-from transforming old clothing into useful items to incorporating fabric scraps into creative projects.
🧶Whether you’re new to sewing or looking to expand your skills, you’ll leave with practical ideas, inspiration, and a fresh perspective: repair it, reinforce it, and reimagine it!

Stephanie Katterhenrich (Horvath) is a SE Ohio-based industrial sewist, mender, and lifelong creative whose love of sewing began in childhood.
As a child, Stephanie remembers watching her mother sew and wishing to learn more. Her middle-school sewing class sparked a lasting love. Through high school she continued her love by hand sewing, creating and altering clothing. Sewing remained a quiet dream through many years and many creative pursuits. A dream Stephanie never let go.
Working at Joann Fabrics inspired Stephanie to return to sewing. She obtained her first sewing machine and immersed herself in learning through books, YouTube, experimentation, and practice. She found that she couldn't get enough.
Today, Stephanie works as an industrial sewist. Recently she became the Contract Mender and Sewist for a grant funded recycling project. She is also pursuing a business of her own, Katt--Sewing Possibilities. Her business blends her passion for creative repair, visible mending, Sashiko, Boro-inspired techniques, and upcycling.
Don't forget to mark your calendars! We've got a lot to show you throughout the day!
