Shawano Community High School Orchestras is comprised of two orchestras: Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra. The Concert Orchestra consists mainly of freshman and sophomores, but is open to students of all grades who wish to return to orchestra. At least two years of playing experience are required to enter/return to this orchestra. Musical study and performances include both arrangements an
d original scores of baroque, classical, romantic and popular music. Concert Orchestra performs at the Golden Strings concert, Combined Holiday concert, mid-winter and spring concerts, and District and State Solo and Ensemble. Other performing opportunities are available during the year. Individual and small group lessons are part of the course requirement, which are offered at school at no cost. The Symphony Orchestra consists of juniors, seniors, and select freshmen and sophomores. This orchestra plays both string orchestra music and symphonic literature, combining with members of the Wind Ensemble. Symphonic Orchestra performs at the Golden Strings concert, Combined Holiday concert, mid-winter and spring concerts, District and State Solo and Ensemble, and Graduation. Solo and Ensemble is a requirement in this orchestra. Individual and small group lessons are also part of the course requirement, which are offered during school hours for no cost.
