Last month, we were pleased to join Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) in kicking off the latest cohort of the Brampton Creative Leaders Summit.

Representing a wide range of disciplines and career stages, participants gathered for an orientation session focused on building connections, sharing experiences, and identifying both individual and collective goals for the program. The session laid the groundwork for meaningful conversations about leadership, collaboration, and the future of Brampton's arts and culture sector.

The Creative Leaders Summit is designed to support a vibrant and sustainable arts and culture sector in Brampton. Following the orientation session, participants will continue their learning and leadership development through summit sessions taking place later this month.

Thank you to BAO and all of this year's participants for helping make the first gathering such a thoughtful and engaging start! We're excited to see where the conversations and connections lead.

Last month, together with Ontario Culture Days, we were pleased to welcome MP Chi Nguyen (Spadina–Harbourfront) to our suite at 401 Richmond to meet participants in the Canada Summer Jobs program and learn more about the work being done across Ontario's arts and culture sector.

During the visit, MP Nguyen met with Justin Santiago, our Canada Summer Jobs placement, to learn about her experience supporting us with programming, marketing, and operations. We're delighted to share that Justin's role has been extended through the end of the year!

Programs like Canada Summer Jobs create valuable opportunities for emerging professionals to gain meaningful work experience. We're grateful to MP Chi Nguyen for taking the time to visit 401 Richmond, connecting with us, and for her interest in the arts and culture sector.

Last week, we welcomed artists, cultural workers, and arts organizations for our Meet the Funders Panel, presented as part of Ontario Culture Days 2026.

The afternoon brought together funders from the municipal, provincial, and federal levels to share insights on funding opportunities, current priorities, and strategies for strengthening grant applications.

Toronto's all-night celebration of contemporary art returns this fall and as proud residents of 401 Richmond Street West, we're especially excited to see our creative home come alive for Nuit Blanche Toronto once again!

On October 3 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., 401 will be teeming with dynamic and interactive exhibitions, installations and performances. Two floors of creative exploration highlight a diversity of cultural practice and showcase the iconic address that continues to transform Toronto’s cultural landscape.

There are just 5 days left to apply to host an arts education project through the ArtWorksTO Newcomer Program!

What could your GTA organization accomplish with paid arts education support?

Apply today to host an ArtWorksTO project, and work with a newcomer arts educator to develop workshops or arts-based learning opportunities for your community. We currently have artists available with expertise in visual arts, theatre, dance, media arts, live-action role playing (LARP), art history, paper craft making, and much more! Plus, the newcomer arts educator will receive $5,000 in funding from Toronto Arts Foundation to make your project possible.

Multiple applications are welcome!

This program is open to organizations across the GTA, including arts orgs, municipalities, libraries, non-profit and for-profit orgs, and small and large-scale businesses.

Have an arts education project idea you'd love to bring to life? Good news – Project Host applications for the Arts Education stream of the ArtWorksTO Newcomer Program have been extended to September 28, giving GTA organizations more time to collaborate with a newcomer arts educator on a paid creative project!

This is a great opportunity to build meaningful relationships and support newcomer arts educators in developing sustainable creative careers – with no direct cost to participate.

We currently have artists available with expertise in visual arts, theatre, dance, media arts, live-action role playing (LARP), art history, paper craft making, and more!

Back-to-school season is a time for learning, reflection, and looking ahead! This year, through the Work-Integrated Learning in the Arts Program, we spoke with arts leaders and professionals about their career journeys, lessons learned, and advice for emerging arts workers.

First in our Creative Careers: Insights for the Journey Ahead interview series is Betty Xie, founder and CEO of Forward Avenue, coach, fundraising consultant, filmmaker, and advocate for creative people and organizations.

In her interview, Betty reflects on her career journey and shares insights on the value of taking initiative, seeking mentorship, and building transferable skills across disciplines. Her experience demonstrates how being open to new opportunities can lead to unexpected and rewarding career pathways.

This past winter, Work in Culture once again partnered with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable, with support from the Government of Canada, to welcome over 170 Arts Management students from the University of Toronto Scarborough and 30 arts professionals and leaders from across the creative industries through our Work-Integrated Learning Opportunities in the Arts program.

From January to March 2026, students participated in facilitated networking sessions, skills workshops, and capstone project presentations focused on careers in film, television, music, publishing, gaming, and beyond. Along the way, they connected with industry professionals, explored career pathways, and gained valuable insights into the skills and experiences employers are looking for today.

We're grateful to the students, employers, and partners who helped make this program a success.

As we head into the back-to-school season, we're excited to share a new series highlighting career advice and insights from some of the arts and cultural sector professionals who participated in the program. Stay tuned for Creative Careers: Insights for the Journey Ahead throughout September!
