Raising the floor in the landing to get rid of step area. Looking for thoughts on raising the floor in the blue boxed area. I'm refurbishing a victorian terrace, the stairs are steep, but this bit of the landing I don't like. So my thoughts are to floor over the blue area, and create an additional step. Can I put my weight on these beams in my attic? I plan to slide a piece of 3/4” thick particle board that will rest on at least two joists for standing as I work my way across installing baffles. Is this safe? Of course not stepping on the drywall in between.

Sill plate extends into interior of room. Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Our builder has been building a 10x12 mudroom addition to a house with a concrete slab foundation. The addition used concrete block for frost walls with the subfloor comprised of poured concrete over a layer of foam insulation. The plan has been for the 2 concrete slabs to be at the same level, with the floors finished with Schluter ditra-heat and tile. It’s seems the sill plate extends well inside the plane of the interior wall, with even the bolts visible. The builder is telling us “that’s the only way it’s done” and his plan is to build a lip around the 3 exterior walls of the room that will prevent any furniture from sitting against the wall. This seems more like mistake than a feature. Am I wrong to think this is a mistake? Is there any way to fix this?

How should I build a 2ft overhang off this beam? I have a patio cover that was moved from somewhere else and I want to add a 18-24" overhang on this side to better protect the beam and posts from the weather. Like an A-frame roof but only two feet on one side. I can cut 18-25" rafters and attach them with Simpson A34...but that just puts all the load twisting the beam forward. Should I put a 2x6 fascia across all the short rafters to tie them together, then put diagonal braces down to each post? I'm happy to spend the money on brackets, just want to do it right.

How to fix this shower water leak. So there’s this interesting bathroom upstairs in the house that I recently bought that’s also a shower. By this, I mean the entire room is tile and the toilet is in the same room - interesting, I know. Anyway, water is leaking through to the outside. It seems like there’s some sort of PVC-like piping under the tile step. I’m not sure what it is or if it’s standard. It also seems like there’s grout or something similar that is crumbling away. The caulk job is obviously also very shoddy. Anyway, what can I do to get this sealed properly?
