It’s Memorial Day weekend. Given what Memorial Day stands for, it seems disrespectful to say "Happy Memorial Day." We remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. But, despite the cold and rainy weather, we hope you had a good weekend. I spent time at a grill while my brother held an umbrella over me. But it was good to have family in the house.
As a reminder to teams who have old gift certificates from Rumsey that were won before the new owners took over, the new owners are allowing you to use them this week. After this week, they will be paper.
Here are the questions and answers for this week. The questions: What is the capital of Guam? Which country has the oldest continuously used national flag? MLB great Ty Cobb had what nickname? And the unrelated answers: Shedder, Oganesson, and General John A. Logan.
For Benders players, we will have a game this week on Monday.
Have a good weekend. Keep warm. Keep dry. And come by this week for more trivia!

Attention Rumsey Players:
The new owners announced that they are honoring "old" winning gift cards through next week, so teams who have been banking them should bring them to pay next week. After next week, they will be paper!

We’re going to be out on Saturday for a wonderful charity cause, so I am posting on Friday night. “The Warrior Retreat at Bull Run is the flagship program of Willing Warriors. Our Retreat provides a much-needed break for our recovering service members at military hospitals in the National Capital Region. The daily routine of the long recovery process takes a heavy toll on the entire warrior family. The Retreat is a place where our “Willing Warriors” can get away from the hospital environment with their families to relax, enjoy quality time, and reconnect in a comfortable home-like setting. This respite helps to revitalize the mind, spirit, and soul, important aspects of the holistic healing process. The objective is that the entire family returns to their warrior’s recovery process feeling refreshed, inspired, and motivated to succeed in rebuilding the lives they wish to lead.” They have 3 houses in Haymarket, Virginia, that are completely ADA-compliant. There is a Corvette show there on Saturday that will raise a lot of money for them. If you would like to know more about them, let me know.
Here are the advances for this week. The questions: Winston Churchill ordered the restocking of which animal at Gibraltar in 1942? A mausoleum in what city was dedicated as the Rosa L. Parks Freedom Chapel after Rosa Parks was interred there in 2005? Where is the sinciput found in your body? And the unrelated answers: Venus, Florence, Lucy Mercer Rutherford.
Looks like it will be warming up this week. The forecast says 90s by Tuesday! But the restaurants will be cool and the trivia – HOT! Come see us!

Edit: Rosa Parks was interred in 2005, not 1995.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and those who act as mothers. If your mothers are no longer with us, may their memories always be a blessing.
We are less than 2 months away from the Flagship Trivia at Sea cruise! Everyone who is going should have received the email about the motorcoach. If you haven’t received it or if you have any questions, please contact me right away.
Here are the advance questions and answers for this week. The questions: Who is credited with inspiring the sport of marathon running? The Schmidt pain index is a pain scale rating the relative pain caused by what? Your heart has 4 chambers. The upper chambers are called atria. What are the lower chambers called? And the unrelated answers: Missouri, Alexander the Great, Insects.

Did anyone see Jeopardy on Monday night? I didn't see it Monday night, of course. I record it since I am at trivia. But this picture was a visual answer. When I saw it, I couldn't resist sharing it with you.

Another month has gone by; another month is starting. They say it is a real thing that the older you get, the faster time seems to fly. As we grow older, our brains process new information more slowly, leading to fewer new memories being formed in a given time period. This slower processing results in a perception that time is passing more quickly. Yee-frickin’-hah. On the bright side, if there is one, at least the time between now and my next cruise should fly by. I hope.
Speaking of cruises, for anyone who has played trivia with us for any length of time, you know we like to go on cruises. We actually have four cruises booked, including the Flagsthip Trivia cruise in July. While we really enjoy going on cruises, it means that someone has to host for me when I am out of town. I have a wonderful group of people who step up time after time. Recently, I found that for one of them, circumstances have changed, and she can’t commit to being my substitute host. If you would like to occasionally host for me at Mountaineer Meat Smokers (the next time is June 3), please let me know. You must have your own laptop capable of wirelessly projecting the screen. Please send me a private message.
Here are the advance questions and answers for this week. The questions: Who led the Mexican army during the Battle of Puebla? What US state is represented by the figures of Will Rogers and Sequoyah in the Capitol's Statuary Hall? What is the modern name for Van Diemen’s Land? And the unrelated answers: Vincent Van Gogh, Mali, Nick Carraway.
Have a great week, and we will see you at trivia!
