The Legend of Newnan’s Sasquatch
For the better part of a year, rumors have swirled across Newnan, Georgia, about a mysterious creature we have affectionately dubbed
“The Newnan Sasquatch.”
According to eyewitness reports—which range from “mostly believable” to “he’d had three sweet teas and a funnel cake”—the creature stands somewhere between three and nine feet tall, smells faintly of pine trees and barbecue smoke, and has an unusual habit of disappearing whenever someone reaches for a camera.
The first sighting allegedly occurred behind a convenience store off Highway 34. A man claimed he saw a massive hairy figure carrying what appeared to be a family-size bag of pork rinds. When police arrived, they found nothing but a single muddy footprint and an empty bag of Golden Flake chips.
Since then, reports have poured in from all over Coweta County.
One resident swore she saw the beast riding in the back of a pickup truck near Moreland.
Another claimed Sasquatch (the bear) helped push-start his lawn mower before vanishing into the woods.
A local fisherman insists the creature stole his sandwich, nodded politely, and disappeared into the tree line.
Despite dozens of reports, the Newnan Police Department and the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office have yet to uncover a single piece of credible evidence.
Deputies have investigated strange noises, suspicious footprints, mysterious shadows, and one incident that turned out to be an unusually large golden retriever named Hank.
Trail cameras have captured deer.
Turkeys.
Coyotes.
A confused raccoon carrying a Pop-Tart.
But never Sasquatch.
Not once.
One deputy reportedly spent three nights staking out a heavily wooded area after receiving multiple sightings. The only thing he encountered was a mosquito population large enough to qualify for its own ZIP code.
Even drone searches have come up empty.
The closest thing to evidence occurred when a game camera captured what appeared to be a large dark figure walking through the woods. After a lengthy investigation, experts determined it was actually someone’s uncle Earl wearing a camouflage Snuggie.
Yet the sightings continue.
Some residents claim Sasquatch can only be seen at dawn.
Others insist he only appears during Braves winning streaks.
A few believe he is secretly employed by the county and spends weekdays hiding in plain sight.
The most popular theory, however, is that Newnan’s Sasquatch is simply too smart.
He knows where the cameras are.
He avoids motion sensors.
He understands police radio traffic.
And somehow always manages to stay one step ahead of law enforcement.
To this day, neither Newnan Police nor Coweta County Sheriff’s deputies have located a footprint, hair sample, photograph, DNA evidence, or anything remotely proving the creature exists.
But every now and then, usually around a backyard fire pit or inside a local diner, someone will lean in and whisper:
“You can believe what you want… but I know what I saw.”
And somewhere deep in the woods of Coweta County, a mysterious hairy figure may—or may not—be laughing while enjoying a stolen pork rind and watching the search continue.
