Since losing Dalton, our family and friends have gathered every year to honor his memory through the Dalton O’Gorman Memorial Team Roping. What started as a way to remember him has grown into something far greater than we ever could have imagined. We never dreamed the roping would become what it has today, and that is because of all of you.
After a lot of thought, we have made the difficult decision that this year’s 8th Annual Dalton O’Gorman Memorial Team Roping will be our final full roping in Erick.
Losing Dalton, and then Randy, has taught us just how precious our time with the people we love truly is. The time, work, and preparation that goes into putting on a weekend-long roping has become more than the small group of volunteers, friends, and family working behind the scenes can continue to carry. As hard as this decision has been, we feel it is time to make a change.
While the memorial roping as we know it is coming to an end, Dalton and Randy’s legacy will not.
We will continue awarding the annual scholarships in their honor, helping invest in the futures of students in our community and surrounding areas. We also plan to continue gathering for an annual event at the place where it all started: the Dalton O’Gorman Arena in Shamrock. Future dates and events will be determined, but we look forward to finding new ways to continue honoring our cowboys and bringing the people who loved them together.
To everyone who has sponsored, donated, competed, volunteered, hauled stock, helped set up or clean up, traveled to be with us, or simply showed up over the years; thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
There are no words that could fully express what your support has meant to our family. Year after year, you helped us turn an unimaginable loss into something beautiful. You helped us keep Dalton’s memory alive, and later helped us honor Randy alongside him. For the love you have shown our family and the part each of you has played in their legacy, we could never repay you.
So, for the final time, we hope you’ll join us in Erick for the 8th Annual Dalton O’Gorman Memorial Team Roping and help us make this year the best one yet.
Most of all, thank you for loving our cowboys. Thank you for continuing to speak their names, share their stories, and make sure they are never forgotten.
