The Visitor Experience Conference is a conference for those working in visitor-serving roles in museums and cultural institutions.

The Visitor Experience Group (VEX) provides professional development for arts and cultural institutions in the areas of Visitor Services, Audience Engagement, and Visitor Experience. How VEX defines the Visitor Experience:
Visitor Experience encompasses all the tangible and intangible aspects of the presentation of your organization’s mission with which a visitor could interact. It is the perceptions, sentiments, and reactions a visitor has with your institution and ensures that every visitor is granted a pleasant and rewarding experience from pre- to post-visit.

On Monday, October 12, join us for a landmark Town Hall featuring a "Council of Firsts." We are bringing together the visionaries behind Philadelphia’s foundational institutions—the original blueprints for how Americans interact with nature, science, and culture.

Philadelphia is the cradle of the American institutional identity. It is home to the nation's first botanical garden, zoo, hospital, and library, to name a few. But what does it mean to be the "first" for two and a half centuries?

We are deeply disappointed in the Drexel University decision to close the Academy of Natural Sciences. The Academy has been a big part of our journey, from hosting our very first conference (then the Greater Philadelphia Visitor Services Symposium) to the event pictured above from the 2019 conference. This is a tremendous loss for the city of Philadelphia and for the science community as a whole and a devastating blow to the dedicated, brilliant museum workers who bring that place to life each day.

On Wednesday, October 14, get a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of two unique Philly cultural attractions: The Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia and Eastern State Penitentiary. This ticket includes admission to both institutions, a short presentation/tour from staff, and bus transportation to and from the conference hotel.

VEX 26 Session Spotlight! Kick off a full day of sessions with Making the World a Better Place through SUPERB Service presented by Karen Dutton, Manager of Visitor Services, The Chrysler Museum of Art.

Frontline staff shape every museum visit. This session introduces the SUPERB Service Model and Gallery Host program from the Chrysler Museum of Art. Participants explore six mission-aligned practices that build connection, confidence, and collaboration—elevating daily interactions to create welcoming, inclusive, human-centered experiences that inspire a lifelong love of museums.

We are thrilled to announced the Mar Dixon Travel Scholarship in memory of our 2019 keynote, Mar Dixon!

The Mar Dixon Travel Scholarship is being offered in partnership with Mar's family and it includes $1000 to be used towards travel, lodging, meals, and other expenses related to the recipient's time at the Visitor Experience Conference. The recipient will also receive free admission to the Monday keynote and conference sessions, the Monday evening event, and one workshop. Applications for the scholarship will be accepted through Friday, June 26. Recipients of the scholarship are encouraged to take as many museum selfies as possible during their time at the conference!

VEX26 Workshop Spotlight! You Are Here: On Maps & Belonging presented by Dani Rose, Director of Cultural Access at Open Door Art and Alex Boyle, Director of Programs at Art-Reach.

More than navigation tools, maps and way-finding communicate belonging, trust, and accessibility. This workshop guides attendees on how cultural institutions can design accessible maps and signage that empower visitors, improve autonomy, and enhance the visitor experience. Attendees will learn the elements of accessibility way-finding, learn to evaluate maps for to identify gaps, and tactics to improve them. BYO map to work in real time to evaluate and identify areas of success and improvement!
