Now that the winds have died down a bit and the evening springtime sunshine is in full force – we’re starting to get ready for summer and spend time outside! We only have a few more weeks of movies planned, so please consider joining us this Friday night and enjoy a classic (or a remake of a classic) with your neighbors!

This Friday night at the Movies

6:00 – Back To The Future (PG – 116 mins)
In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents, and must make sure that they fall in love, or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.

Well it certainly feels like Spring Break season! We know that a ton of you will be headed to warmer climates for a few days. Have fun and be safe! We hope the only movies you watch are the ones you take of your family adventure (and maybe on the plane late at night).

For those of us lucky enough to be here in Seward enjoying all of the majesty our backyard has to offer, we have some GREAT NEWS! We were planning to be ‘dark’ this Friday – but it turns out we have TWO BRAND NEW movies to show so let’s pack the house for a ‘Spring Break Kickoff Movie Night!’

We hope to see you and your family down at the Rae Building this Friday – and are really looking forward to seeing more of you volunteer to help out in what we’re thinking will be a great Friday Night!

🎂 BIRTHDAY EMERGENCY! 🎬

The truth is, we wouldn’t have our movie series at all if it weren’t for Marie Fletcher, her husband Skip, and the Liberty Theater.

Marie moved to the Mat-Su several years ago, and we are thrilled to share that she will be celebrating her 90th birthday next week! 🎉

There isn’t much time, but Marie’s daughter Kambe is collecting photos and stories to print and share at her birthday celebration.
If you have a memory or photo of Marie you’d like to share — please email it to:

📧 [email protected]

We’ll forward everything to Kambe right away so it can be included at her party.

For literally decades, Marie and Skip worked tirelessly to provide a much-needed place for family recreation in our tiny hamlet on Resurrection Bay. If your family lived in Seward, you knew Marie and you were at the Liberty regularly. One of my fondest memories of the theater is the corkboard covered with family photos — mine was on there somewhere!

The volunteers of the Seward Winter Family Community Movie Series and the Seward Arts Council are truly humbled to follow in Marie’s footsteps and wish her a Healthy and Happy year ahead!

💌 Coming to the movies tomorrow?
We’ll have a large handmade birthday card available to decorate — Marie will LOVE a handmade cards from kids in her favorite town.

We're back this week, and in the home stretch...almost halfway to Spring Break! The daylight is starting to come back and the winter activities (at least a few miles inland where there has been less rain and colder temps) are in their prime! However, it's still cold and dark (and wet) in the evenings, so why not come down and enjoy a movie to kick off the weekend?

This Friday February 6th at the movies....

6:00 PM The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie (PG 91 mins). Porky Pig and Daffy Duck become Earth's only hope when their antics at the local bubble-gum factory uncover a secret alien mind-control plot. Faced with cosmic odds, they must save their town and the world while not driving each other totally looney.

8:00 PM M3GAN 2.0 (PG13 - 119 mins). Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous rampage, its creator, Gemma, has become an advocate for government oversight of AI. Unbeknownst to her, a defense contractor has created a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate infiltration spy. However, as Emlia's self-awareness increases, it becomes less interested in taking orders. Hoping to stop Emilia, Gemma decides to resurrect M3GAN, making it faster, stronger, and more lethal.

Sorry for the late notice, but we wanted to make sure that everyone knows that there won't be movies at the Rae building tonight! Instead, you should all head over to Seward High School to cheer on the Seahawks at the annual Seahawk Classic! There are visiting teams from Bethel, Unalaska, and Kenai. You never know who will be suited up for Seward...probably not these players!

We'll be back next Friday February 6th...maybe with some of the folks in the pic below doing what they do best (not playing HS Basketball)

The days are getting longer, and it looks like we may have a “normal” winter after all (whatever that means).

This week, we’re especially lucky to share a brand-new, popular movie… so we thought it would be extra fun to dig deep into the archives and pair it with one of the most classic films of all time. Even better, it’s the perfect prequel for our second movie of the night!
