I wasn’t sure if I’d ever make this post. But the states series is finished, and it’s absolutely wild to see them come together in a map! I began a series of painting each state in the United States in Watercolor in 2016, hoping to depict an aspect of natural beauty for each state. I abandoned this series after just a few states, only to pick it up again in 2019 (but then give up on it again!) But it wasn't until the pandemic, when we were all stuck at home, that I truly began, with all these current states painted between 2021-2023. Thank you to all that helped me come up with ideas! Thank you for those who cheered me on. But when I look at this finished map, to me, I see the last 3ish years of my life. It’s uncanny to think of how much my life has changed during the time I made these paintings! When I was painting them, the world was shut down, I was newly married. And then my husband and I bought a house, had a baby. I gained new friends and lost some too. I painted some of these states while I had a baby kicking me from the inside. And painted some while I wrangled this same baby!! I learned a lot about painting, but also learned I still have so much more to learn!
