We are excited to be hosted by our good friend at Frame Gallery Custom Frames and Art for an art exhibit of the works of our students! The show is tomorrow, July 7 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome!

Many of the artists have been painting together for more than ten years and there are works by new artists, too. From acrylic paintings to collage and Christian icons, the show represents the multi-faceted talents of the students and their teacher.

The artists include: Tippy Anderson, Betty Barton Blythe, Nancy Burnett, Lacy Camp, Barbara Dwyer, Martha Keeble, Susan Lane, Leslie Lightfoot, Rebecca Miller, Geraldine Piccard, Delanna Rhoton, Barbara Schlichting, Annette Smith, Randa Wells, David Williams and Laura Willis.

The exhibit, dedicated in loving memory of Barbara Schlichting and David Williams, will be on display through August 11, 2023.

After seven weeks of classes, 28 students completed writing the icon: Jesus, the Good Shepherd. You can see their beautiful creations here.

I want to offer special thanks to the Rev. Garron Daniels, the Rev. Melissa Hartley, and the Rev. Tom Macfie, for blessing the completed icons. And thank you to Elizabeth Koella and Laura Willis for helping make the classes possible.

We will be offering more icon classes in the future, including Angels and Archangels.

JUST A FEW spots remain in the Lenten Iconography workshop being offered by Sewanee Art Works.

Martha Keeble is offering a seven-week class featuring the icon, “The Good Shepherd.” It will meet from 6 to 8 pm, on Tuesdays, starting March 21. No previous art experience is necessary. (Note: The Tuesday morning class is full.)

Icon writing is a contemplative spiritual practice, a meeting place between the divine and the human. This class offers a meditative and creative way to engage in the Lenten season.

The cost for the seven classes is $200 and includes all supplies. Space is limited. For more information or to register, contact Martha Keeble at .

Sewanee Art Works is offering a seven-week Lenten iconography class featuring “The Good Shepherd.”

Icon writing is a contemplative spiritual practice, a meeting place between the divine and the human. Part of the icon’s symbolism is transmitted through the step-by-step technique used to create it, including style, materials, and actions. Iconography is primarily conducted in silence while listening to Gregorian chants. This class offers a meditative and creative way to engage in the Lenten season.

Taught by Martha Keeble, the “Good Shepherd” class will meet weekly on Tuesdays, from March 21 to May 2, at Sewanee Art Works. There will be two class times: 10 am to Noon or 6 to 8 pm. No previous art experience is necessary.

The cost for the seven classes is $200 (which can be paid in two installments) and includes all supplies. Space is limited. For more information or to register, contact Martha Keeble at .

Be inspired by the creativity on display this weekend at Tennessee Craft South's annual Holiday Studio Tour on the Mountain, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. CST, Saturday, Dec. 3, and 11 a.m to 4 p.m. CST, Sunday, Dec. 4. Look for the YELLOW signs or follow the map in the Sewanee Mountain Messenger 💛

Sewanee Art Works will be open and have pieces for sale by numerous artists who create in the space. It's also a good chance to see the studio, enjoy a snack, and meet Martha Keeble.
