🎻 Meet Craig Sorgi, Concertmaster of Mid-Texas Symphony.

For more than two decades, Craig Sorgi has been an integral part of the Mid-Texas Symphony family.

Craig joined the San Antonio Symphony’s First Violin section in 1982 and later served as Acting Assistant Concertmaster before becoming Mid-Texas Symphony’s Concertmaster in 2005. His musical career has also included serving as Concertmaster of the San Antonio Opera and performing extensively as a chamber musician and solo recitalist throughout South Texas.

His connection to MTS extends beyond the concert stage. In 2011, Craig founded the Mid-Texas Symphony Chamber Players and served as their Artistic Director, further enriching the musical landscape of our community.

And perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of his work is the next generation. Craig has dedicated much of his career to music education, including teaching violin at Trinity University and serving as Director of the Cactus Pear Music Festival’s Young Artist Program.

We are proud to have Craig’s artistry, leadership, and passion at the heart of Mid-Texas Symphony. 🎶

If you could learn to play one instrument in the orchestra, which would you choose? 🎶

Violin? Cello? Flute? Trumpet? Percussion?

Every instrument brings its own unique voice to the orchestra, and together, they create something greater than any one instrument could create alone.

So, we want to know: if you could pick one, what would you choose? 👇 Tell us your instrument of choice in the comments!

Celebrating Creativity Across Our Community! 🎨✨

We’re excited to celebrate the talented second graders who participated in our Mid-Texas Symphony Coloring Book Program! Their creativity, imagination, and love of music truly stood out, and we’re thrilled to recognize our contest winners and their beautiful submissions. 🎶🖍️

Each winner received a special prize: a family membership to the McKenna Children’s Museum or tickets to an upcoming Mid-Texas Symphony concert! We hope these prizes give our young artists even more opportunities to explore, create, and experience the arts.

Through this coloring book program, all 2nd graders in Comal, New Braunfels, Seguin, Marion, and Navarro ISDs have the opportunity to engage with the world of music and the symphony in a fun and creative way. Programs like this help introduce young students to the arts while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and imagination beyond the classroom. 🎻🎨

A very special thank you to the McKenna Children's Museum for partnering with us and helping make this program even more meaningful for our young artists. We are grateful for your support of arts education and the children in our community! 💙

And, of course, congratulations to all of our winners! Your creativity deserves to be celebrated. 👏✨

New to the symphony? Here's a quick concert etiquette tip! 🎶

It's customary to hold applause until the conductor lowers their hands at the end of a piece—even if there are several movements. This allows the music to finish exactly as the composer intended.

Don't worry, once the piece ends, enthusiastic applause is always welcome! 👏🎻

Musical term of the day: Crescendo 🎶

A crescendo means to gradually increase the volume of the music. It can turn a quiet passage into a powerful, emotional moment that fills the concert hall.

Next time you're listening to an orchestra, see if you can spot one! 🎻

What happens before the audience arrives? 🎼

Musicians warm up, tune their instruments, review difficult passages, and prepare mentally for the performance ahead. While audiences see the finished concert, there's a great deal of preparation behind every note.

It's all part of bringing live music to life. 🎶
