And our final mainstage of the 2026-2027 Theatre Season...FALSETTOS - Book by William Finn & James Lapine, Music & Lyrics by William Finn, and Directed by Kristen Henning!

“A seamless pairing of MARCH OF THE FALSETTOS and FALSETTOLAND, two acclaimed Off-Broadway musicals written nearly a decade apart, FALSETTOS is the tale of a neurotic New Yorker named Marvin, who leaves his wife Trina and young son Jason to live with his lover, Whizzer. In time, Trina marries his psychiatrist, Whizzer leaves him, and Marvin ends up alone. Two years later, Marvin and Whizzer reunite on the eve of Jason’s bar mitzvah, just as AIDS is beginning its insidious spread. With the help of their neighbors, Charlotte and Cordelia, Marvin and his entire family learn to grow up and face their future with love and dignity.” - Concord Theatricals

Our third mainstage of the 2026-2027 SFCC Theatre Season...AN OLD-FASHIONED FAMILY MURDER by Joe DiPietro, directed by Tim Wells!

“A murder. A mystery. A mother. It’s a dark and stormy night at the mansion of elderly Colonel Claythorne, and the pompous murder-mystery author Arthur Whittington is holding court with the Colonel’s family: his eldest daughter, Clarice, who is cold and glamorous; Clarice’s attractive fiancé, Jasper; Claythorne’s youngest daughter, Dotty, who is a big fan of Whittington’s; and Mrs. Shirley Peck, an unassuming but keenly observant visiting widow. When Whittington shares the news that the Colonel has modified his will to cut out one of his daughters – though which daughter won’t be revealed until the Colonel’s death – tempers flare. By the time Mrs. Peck’s son (junior), Detective Paul Peck, arrives at the house, there’s been a murder, and everyone is a suspect. With backstabbing, love, and Mrs. Peck’s mother-knows-best advice complicating the investigation, it soon becomes clear that nothing – and no one – is what it seems. An Old-Fashioned Family Murder premiered in Overland Park, Kansas, at New Theatre & Restaurant in September 2024!” - Concord Theatricals

Next up! Our children’s show for the 2026-2027 SFCC Theatre Season...POLKADOTS: THE COOL KIDS MUSICAL - book by Melvin Tunstall III, music by Greg Dean Borowsky & Douglas Lyons, based on an original script by Douglas Lyons, and directed by Kristen Henning!

“The plot follows 8-year-old Lily Polkadot, who just moved to the “Squares Only” small town of Rockaway. As the first Polkadot in an all-Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying to segregated drinking fountains, Lily’s quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polkadot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship. Inspired by the events of The Little Rock 9, Polkadots serves as a colorful history lesson for children, reminding them that our individual differences make us awesome, not outcasts.” - Concord Theatricals

Throughout this week, we’ll be announcing the 2026-2027 SFCC Theatre Season!!

Our first mainstage...THE PAVILION by Craig Wright, directed by Trevor Belt!

“Hailed by critics as “an Our Town for our time,” this play is by turns poetic and comic, romantic and philosophical. Peter returns to his twenty-year high-school reunion with dreams of winning back Kari, the girl he left behind after an unexpected pregnancy ended their relationship. Standing in Peter’s way is Kari’s bitter-as-ever resentment, her husband, and the fact that Peter still hasn’t grown up. As the night progresses, both Peter and Kari are led, through their interactions with a host of characters and a virtuosic Narrator, to face the consequences of choices made long ago and start back into life with newfound strength and bittersweet resolve.” - Concord Theatricals

Please help us welcome our new Technical Theatre Instructor, Trevor Belt! He will serve as the new Designer/Technical Director and Theatre faculty for SFCC Theatre Program.

Trevor brings over two decades of professional theatre experience to State Fair Community College as an actor, director, designer and producer. His work has been seen at the Maples Repertory Theatre, Music Theatre Heritage, Spinning Tree Theatre, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, Paul Bunyan Playhouse, Western Playhouse, Highland Summer Theatre, the KC Fringe Festival, and six seasons with the Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, where he has shared the stage with numerous industry luminaries like Ken Jennings and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. He was the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Relevance Productions in KC, establishing the award-winning company at just 21 years old. His production of THOM PAIN (BASED ON NOTHING) was named the Best Play in Kansas City for the 2010 season by The Pitch Magazine, besting fellow nominee and Tony-Award Winning Director David Cromer’s production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. Trevor’s work as a designer has been recognized by the American College Theatre Region Five Festival with certificates of merit for his work on productions of OUR TOWN, THE DEAD GUY and VAMPIRE COWBOY TRILOGY. He is a proud 2007 graduate of State Fair Community College (AA), and received his BFA from the University of Central Missouri (2010) and an MFA from Minnesota State University, Mankato (2020). This summer, he will direct ALMOST HEAVEN: THE MUSIC OF JOHN DENVER and appear as Carlino in WAIT INTIL DARK at the Maples Repertory Theatre in Macon, Missouri. When not spending time in a dark theatre, Trevor enjoys watching the NBA, rooting for the Kansas City Royals, and dabbling in Visual Art!

Since we have concluded the Spring 2026 semester, we would like to take this moment to recognize Tim Wells on his retirement!

Tim was hired in January 1995 with the opening of the Stauffacher Center for the Fine Arts as Technical Director for the theatre space, as well as Theatre faculty. He served State Fair Community College for 31 ½ years, meaning he was both the first and only person in this role! In his career with the college, he has worked on 119 SFCC theatre productions—influencing countless student lives along the way.

Thank you, Tim, for your impact on the theatre program, SFCC as a whole, and most importantly—our students. You are leaving big shoes to fill. But don’t worry, he will still be around—he is serving as the guest director for our 2026-2027 season for our February production (announcement coming)!

Now go grab a Coke Zero and take a load off your feet—you deserve it!
