Mom called a meeting.

I assumed it was about my promotion.

Apparently, Director of Howling & Community Outreach is already considered a promotion, despite ignoring my frequent request to oversee the cow herd.

Instead, I was handed an assignment:
Help with the Food & Supply Drive for Heartland Pet Rescue.

Finally.An assignment that includes food.I have been training for this my entire life.

But somewhere between reviewing the donation list and confirming that, no, the bags of dog food are not for me, I realized something...

Helping local pets without a forever home doesn't has to be a big thing:
A bag of dog food.
A blanket.
A leash.
A toy.
Five bucks.

One person doing one small thing might not look like much, but get a whole community doing small things together?

That's a lot of full bowls, warm beds and wagging tails.

So that's your Motivational Monday assignment:

Do the little good that's sitting in front of you.

We're collecting NEW food and pet supplies for Heartland Pet Rescue all week leading up to Dog Days of Summer this Friday, September 4th, and your donations earn entries to win some pretty great prizes.

Happy National Dog Day ! 💕 Char,Noble, & Ca$h

Apparently today is National Dog Day...

Which seems a little unnecessary when you live with three Golden Retrievers & according to us every day is a Dog Day.
Every chair or soft surface is a dog bed.
Every meal requires three quality control inspectors.
Every trip to the bathroom has a security detail.
And every black outfit becomes a limited edition Golden Retriever collaboration approximately six minutes after putting it on.
Mom calls it dog hair.
We call it golden glitter. ✨

So in honor of this completely redundant national holiday, management decided it was time for the Secret Gardens Employee Superlatives.

Three Goldens.
Three very different personalities.
Approximately 47 pounds of golden glitter currently floating through the house.
And somehow, we'd still choose every hairy, chaotic, ridiculous bit of it.
Because maybe that's the thing about dogs.
They leave hair on absolutely everything.
And somehow leave a little bit of themselves there, too.

Happy National Dog Day to all the good dogs, the old dogs, the young dogs, the troublemakers, the professional nappers and the ones currently shedding directly onto something you just washed.

MOTIVATION MONDAY: EVERYONE NEEDS A LITTLE R&R

Cash Chronicles with an important advisory for all our winery friends.

After careful observation, I have determined that my humans have become dangerously deficient in naps.

As the only member of this organization who takes rest and recovery seriously, I've recommended immediate action.

So Secret Gardens Winery & Farm will be CLOSED FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH through SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26TH while our humans take a well-earned break.

At least that's the plan.

🐾 TELL EVERYONE THURSDAY 🐾 DOG DAYS OF SUMMER LABOR DAY KICK OFF🐾

Mom called a family meeting because apparently, we’re throwing a paw-ty.

She said we’ve been too lazy this summer and need something to keep us out of trouble. Then she yelled at Noble because he started to fall asleep..

Dad maintains that he was “resting his eyes while carefully considering the guest experience.”

As his son, I respect his commitment to work-life balance and will not be taking further questions.

Charleigh was also pretty quiet—right up until Mom mentioned an à la carte BBQ menu by Chef Ralph.
She pulled ten years of seniority, appointed herself Executive Director of All Things Food and announced that every menu item would require her personal approval.Preferably twice.

That left me in charge of telling everyone—which is convenient because it’s Tell Everyone Thursday and, frankly, I have the face for public relations.

Heartland’s adoptable dogs will be interviewing humans for the position of Best Friend for Life.

Please arrive prepared to discuss your belly-rub availability, couch policy and snack-benefits package.

Friendly, well-socialized dogs are welcome on the covered patio only. Standard leashes are required; no retractable leashes, please.

General seating is first come, first served. A limited number of indoor and covered-patio tables for up to six guests may also be reserved in advance.

Today I took a field trip to the Lake Placid Caladium Festival, and I have a few observations that I thought I might share with y’all…

First of all… there were plants everywhere. I sniffed approximately 847 of them, and while they were all lovely, none of them smelled or tasted like bacon.
.but I also visited with vendors, made lots of new friends, accepted every compliment like the local celebrity I am, and somehow managed to spend more on dog treats than I earned all day at my bulb booth.

I’m choosing to call that an investment in the local economy.

After a while, I realized there was one tiny problem…

Florida remembered it was July.

By the time my tongue was hanging to my knees, I decided I’d had enough festival fun for one day.

So I packed it up,called my chauffeur (aka mom) and headed back the winery, where the air conditioning is cold, the floors are cooler, and there was always a chance someone might accidentally drop bacon.

Now that’s my kind of festival.

Part one:
Walking around Lake Placid admiring thousands of beautiful caladiums.

Part two:
Wondering where you can find air conditioning, something cold to drink, and a comfortable place to sit.
