We're a nonprofit group that runs a letterpress printshop in Sebastopol, CA. We have workshops in printing and book arts, and host public events and tours.

The 2027 Calendar fundraiser was Colleen’s brilliant idea. We are so lucky to have her and appreciate all of her tireless efforts within our organization over the past few years 💜

We have been having a blast in the shop with our Summer intern, Mae! She has been sorting dingbats, distributing long-forgotten formes, and mastering the machines.

We will miss her so when she returns to school on the East Coast next week 🧡

Our members have been busy working their way through the 2027 Letterpress Calendar project🗓️ 12 printers. 12 months. One full year of unique letterpress art on your wall.

Lynn K chose to carve a linocut and set type for her calendar grid by hand, pictured here. Other members are diving into tools and techniques such as pochoir, photopolymer plates, and pressure printing for their pieces.

Oak galls are rich in tannin and other compounds that create an intense black pigment when mixed with iron salts. The ink made from it is indelible and perfect for brush or pen. We will take a short walk to a nearby park to gather some galls, then back to the printshop for the inkmaking. Well make...

We have three more spots open in Saturday, September 5th’s INTRO TO LETTERPRESS workshop! Grab your spot before they fill 🩶

In this class you get to know the iron hand press and the Vandercook SP15. You’ll lock up with magnets and quoins, use brayers and the press rollers to experiment with inking, and play with wood and metal type…not a bad way to spend a Saturday, if you ask us! Not to mention, when class ends, you’re right next door to Handline 🎣, Papas and Pollo🌯, and Psychic Pie🍕to grab a delicious supper.

FROM OAK TO INK

Oak galls are rich in tannin and other compounds that create an intense black pigment when mixed with iron salts. The ink made from it is indelible and perfect for brush or pen. We will take a short walk to a nearby park to gather some galls, then back to the printshop for the inkmaking. We’ll make enough to do some drawing and brush work on various papers to test its qualities. Other materials provided …and each person will take home a vial of ink.
