See you ~TOMORROW~ for an Expert Speaker Series talk given by Beat Kitchen School. Join us as he explains how this bedrock was behind the design of “Harmonic,” an offshoot of additive synthesis he’s calling “harmonic synthesis.” He will also go into detail about using the instrument itself as a hands-on visualization tool, how the overtone series shape sound design and mixing.

It’s time for the next installment in our Expert Speaker Series! Join Beat Kitchen School this Tuesday as he explains how this bedrock was behind the design of “Harmonic,” an offshoot of additive synthesis he’s calling “harmonic synthesis.” Using the instrument itself as a hands-on visualization tool, he’ll walk through how the overtone series shapes everything from mixing to sound design — and why it’s the front door into synthesis, not just a theory requirement.

Excited to see you all join us for another Expert Series talk TOMORROW with our very own president, Seven Sky!

Recognizing that many local recording artists, bands, and composers want to collaborate with live ensembles, but too often logistics, connections, and finances get in the way, the SCA is excited to announce the launch of Studio Sessions, designed to provide a cohort of music creators with the opportunity to work with an arranger, record with a professional ensemble, and learn how ideas become reality in the studio world.

Studio Sessions Vol. 1 will take place at the legendary Avast! Recording Co. https://www.avastrecording.com, where hundreds of notable artists have recorded, including Soundgarden, Death Cab for Cutie, Fleet Foxes, Macklemore, Train, Modest Mouse, Wayne Horvitz, True Loves and The Head and the Heart.

The first 8 artists to complete registration will form the Vol. 1 cohort. Each artist will submit one track or demo the ensemble will record to, work with the arranger to shape the direction of the arrangement, including in one or more virtual spotting sessions (open to all SCA members to observe), and be invited to attend the full 10-hour studio day on Sunday, August 16 to observe the communication between artists, arranger, ensemble, and recording engineer. Every cohort artist will receive professional ensemble recordings ready to mix, and own 100% of the copyright on both the master and publishing side.

Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab Opportunity!!

Our friends at the Seattle Opera are now accepting applications for their Jane Lang Davis Creation Lab program, which trains emerging opera composers and librettists in the Pacific Northwest in the craft of collaborative writing for the opera stage. The culminating project of the 18-month program will be to write a new 20-minute opera, which will be presented in concert in March 2028.

Composers, songwriters, librettists, lyricists, playwrights, and poets of all genres are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Join Women in Film Seattle and Seattle Composers Alliance for a masterclass in how music and sound can assist in a film's storytelling — or even tell its own!

We will be joined by two pairs of experienced film directors and film composers who will additionally speak to their experience in collaborating with one another and the tips and tricks necessary to bring a project over the finish line.

Georgia Krause is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker telling empathetic stories set within elevated realities. Their work has premiered at DOC NYC, Defy Film Fest, South Texas Underground, and was awarded the Founder’s Choice at San Diego Environmental Film Festival.

Tara Forth (she/her) is a versatile composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, voice actor, sound designer, foley artist and producer based in Seattle. Tara's work includes musical soundtracks for award-winning features and short films, custom commercial music, trailer scores, voiceover, audio repair, and music licensing.

Owen Andruchow is a Seattle based composer for indie film and games and audio designer at Khronmiere Entertainment. Story telling is the lens through which he views all creative endeavors, and is fascinated with the collaborative process of bringing them to life.

Chris Julian, originally from New York State, has been in Seattle since 2008. He’s worn many hats in the filmmaking world in that time, including editor, VFX artist, screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, and director, working in just about all genres and project lengths. Outside of filmmaking, he’s also a musician, songwriter, avid swimmer, swim instructor, and furniture designer.

We are very excited to announce the return of Feedback Forum (in-person)!

Wondering if your music is playable, scores are legible, or mixes are clear?

This is an opportunity for SCA members https://seattlecomposers.org/Membership to receive valuable feedback from peers on your lyrics, instrumentation, productions, and more.
