Because of continued gatherings in major parks, the City of Seattle announced today the full closure of major regional parks this weekend where social distancing guidelines have not been followed by patrons. Seattle is joining major cities like Austin and Los Angeles across the country in closing major parks for the weekend.

The parks are: Alki, Arboretum, Cal Anderson, Carkeek, Discovery, Gas Works, Green Lake, Golden Gardens, Kubota Garden, Lincoln, Magnuson, Seward, Volunteer, West Seattle Stadium, and Woodland.

SPD and SPR crews and ambassadors will be onsite to remind individuals to comply. The change is effective Friday, April 10th at 11pm and parks reopen on Monday, April 12 at 4:30 am. https://parkways.seattle.gov/2020/04/09/continued-gatherings-weekend-closure-of-15-largest-parks-and-beaches/

Help preserve a piece of history!

Join with your community in restoring the treasured piece of Seattle history - Colman Pool lobby mural. Commissioned in 1941 and donated to the City by descendants of Seattle’s pioneering Colman family, the mural was painted by prominent WPA-era and Washington-born artist Ernest Norling.

Contributions of any amount are welcomed. Tax-deductible donations can be made at Colman Pool, by mail to Associated Recreation Council at 8061 Densmore Avenue N, Seattle, WA 98103 or online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/learntoswim/ (select “Colman Pool Mural Restoration”).

The mural restoration planned for September 2015, will clean, restore and stabilize the beautiful mural at a cost of $15,000. The Seattle Office of Arts and Culture has pledged half of this funding. We are turning to the community to make up the difference and ensure that this historic work is preserved for future generations.

The mural measures 6’ by 13’ and is titled American Youth and Freedom, displaying scenes from 1940s-era Seattle.

Colman Pool is a unique and picturesque heated saltwater pool located in Lincoln Park along the shores of Puget Sound. The pool, operated by Seattle Parks and Recreation, is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and will celebrate its 75th anniversary on July 4, 2016.
