Harvest Fest at the PlayGarden is just one week away on Saturday October 17th! Mark your calendars and invite your friends come too!

We will have inclusive and family-friendly activities for all to enjoy including an Autumn leaf print making station, a cozy campfire with apple c***r in the grape arbor, festive photo opportunities, a pumpkin carving station, & a pie potluck!

Don’t forget to BYOP- Bring Your Own Pumpkins and/or Pie for the pie potluck!

Don't forget you can now LIGHT RAIL to the PlayGarden! Just take the light rail to the Judkins Station and then it is just a .3 mile walk or roll over to the garden.

September preschool at the playGarden has been a joyful adventure! Each day is full of budding friendships, flower bouquets, sweet story times, collecting items for fairy houses, mud pies, potato harvests, delicious meals cooked together with the kids, adventures to our wild zone, and of course- sensory rich and fun art projects. We have been blessed with lots of Fall sunshine, exciting blustery winds, a couple big rain storms!

We can’t wait to see what October has in store for us.

Want your child to be a PlayGarden preschooler? Wonderful! We still have space for children ages 3 to 5 Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on our rosters.

The Secret Fall Fruit: Quince!
"Allured by the scent of quince fruit grown by my brother and sister-in-law, I planted a young quince tree in 2020. My affection for this tree has grown each year. The harvest has yet to yield more than a dozen fruit, but that is enough to satisfy my craving and fill my kitchen with their heady fragrance. The leaves of the tree are soft and velvety. The fruit is fuzzy and golden, lumpy and bumpy and turns a deep ruby red when cooked. Last fall, became the season of all things quince: cordial, jam, sauce and membrillo, the divine “paste” or “cheese” is a wonderful addition to your charcuterie board, and is traditionally served alongside manchego cheese."- Liz Bullard, PlayGarden Executive Director

“They dined on mince and slices of quince which they ate with a runcible spoon” by Edward Lear in his 1871 classic poem The Owl and the Pussycat.

Things to make with Quince this Fall:
1. Membrillo
2. Ratafia liqueur
3. Sauce
4. Jam

The quince is the sole member of the genus Cydonia in the Malinae subtribe of the Rosaceae family. It is a deciduous tree that bears hard, aromatic bright golden-yellow pome fruit, similar in appearance to a pear. Ripe quince fruits are hard, tart, and astringent.

YOUR CHILD CAN BE A PLAYGARDEN PRESCHOOLER STARTING SEPT. 14th!

We still have spots available for children to attend 2-3 days/week on various combinations of T, W, & F.

More Info: Our nature-based preschool program proudly welcomes families with children with and without all types of disabilities ages 3-5. With a high teacher to child ratio, each and every one of our students get the support they need to truly play, grow, learn and shine! Preschool is Monday- Friday 9am-1am. Financial assistance is available when applying and DDA funds are accepted.

Seattle PlayGarden is still enrolling for our nature-based, inclusive preschool program in the fall! We have flexible schedules for attending 2, 3 or 4 days from 9:00am - 1:00pm for children ages 3-6. We had a large graduating group last year and still have 2 and 3 day openings across our roster for children with and without disabilities.

Specifically, we are looking to fill spots on Wednesday + one or two other days/ week.

Our mission is to provide play-based, child-led, outdoor opportunities for kiddos in a space they feel supported, nurtured and celebrated. We are located at Colman Park in the Mt. Baker neighborhood.

We want to share our deepest gratitude to John and Kelly Olerud and everyone at ! Thank you for nearly 20 years of partnership, financial support for PlayGarden families and uplifting us at the Seattle PlayGarden.

Back on July 5th, the Jordan Fund in partnership with the Seattle Marines hosted a Disability Awareness night at the Mariners home game.

We had over 50 PlayGardener’s attend the event! The Jordan Fund made tickets financially accessibly to our families. Here is a reflection from one of our PlayGardner's:

“My first ever Mariners game! They won! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 I’d like to thank some people who made yesterday possible. Yesterday’s game was no ordinary Mariners vs Blue Jays game. It was the first Disability Awareness Day game they ever had. July is Disability Pride Month so it seems only fitting to mark a special game. This event was organized by the Jordan Fund, a charity to help local people with unique abilities. John Olerud, a former member of the Mariner's started this fund with his wife and children. He had the honor of doing the first pitch of the game yesterday. As you all may already know, I have been a member of the Seattle Playgarden since I was 5 years old. It’s a community gathering space, preschool and camp for people who have disabilities and their families. The Jordan Fund and the Playgarden organized this special event. I’m beyond grateful that I got to be a part of this amazing event.” - Sofia P.

Did you know? Our beloved volcano and water feature- Mount Jordan was built in honor of their daughter Jordan. And we are sure lucky to have it. Rain, snow, sun or hail kids are ALWAYS playing there. It is a daily reminder that ALL kids deserve access to adventurous places to play!

Summer Free Play at the PlayGarden starts today! Don’t let the grey skies scare you- it’s a perfect day to visit the animals, smell the flowers, make a mud pie, make a new friend or invite old friends to come to the garden with you.

You know the big field next to the Seattle PlayGarden ? We have BIG DREAMS for redesigning it to be an accessible adaptive playfield in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Seattle Parks Foundation We need your HELP to make this happen.

Join us next Tuesday 6/30 for this Community Engagement event.

We hope representatives from community partner organizations will join us.
