The overwhelming majority of the music and poetry from the Middle Ages is from a man’s point of view. Whether from sacred or secular sources the texts give us a lot of information about men and and the man’s world, but not so much about women.
In this performance we will take a look at the lives of medieval women, with music from three primary sources: the Llibre Vermell of Montserrat, the Cantigas de Amigo of Martin Codax, and the manuscripts of Hildegard von Bingen, abbess and leading female composer of the time.
Marian Seibert, MWC’s soloist and Assistant Director, joins forces with MWC’s outreach ensemble, Cantiga, and instrumentalists Bill McJohn and Michael LaGaly for a peek into the worldview of a medieval woman: music from Hildegard’s convent, music for a pilgrimage to Montserrat, and music for a trip to the beach at Vigo.
