Jacob McDonald, known on stage as Just One, grew up with a love for sound and rhythm, drawn early to underground culture, electronics, and the DIY spirit of the Northwest music scene. By his late teens he was already experimenting with turntables, starting with Drum & Bass and cutting his teeth in small venues, setting the foundation for what would become a decades-long career in music.
Emerging as one of the Pacific Northwest’s first wave of Bass Music DJs, Just One helped push underground sounds out of the side rooms and onto the main stages. Over the years he hosted and held down numerous weekly club nights across Seattle, eventually becoming the curator of Substance Wednesdays, a night that went on to win Seattle Weekly’s award for Best Weekly Club Night multiple times. During this period he played alongside and supported countless international headliners, building a reputation as a selector who could move any room.
Beyond the booth, Just One has always been a community organizer and scene builder. His efforts in Seattle and Olympia nurtured spaces where underground talent could thrive, while also mentoring rising artists and advocating for sustainable event culture.
Outside of music, he is a devoted father and husband, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a lover of the Pacific Northwest lifestyle.
