A zoomed in preview of "Astrocytes" by Changho Chun of the Neuromuscular Disease Research Group (NDRG). To see the rest of this incredible piece of research-derived art, you'll have to come to Art Neureau Wednesday Nov 2nd at the Fremont Abbey!
"Our lab uses stem cells to model various forms of neuromuscular disease. Here we show astrocytes that have been differentiated from human induced pluripotent stem cells. We use these cells in co-culture with neurons to examine the interplay between neuronal activity and the surrounding glia. Such research will help us determine what role cells like astrocytes play in exacerbating or modulating neurodegenerative disease phenotypes in patients. These cells have been stained with fluorescent antibodies that recognize S100beta (green) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (red), both markers of astrocytes. Nuclei were visualized using DAPI, a compound that fluoresces when bound to DNA."

Art Neureau is an annual neuroscience-themed art show organized every year by students/staff associated with the neuroscience graduate program at the University of Washington. This year's event is scheduled for the evening of TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th, and we are currently looking for artwork to showcase!

Submissions will be accepted until TUESDAY, AUGUST 17th. Pieces do not have to be completed by this time; however, if you are intending to submit a piece, you should fill out this form by that deadline. Anyone can submit a piece--the only rule is that all artwork must be neuroscience-related in some way! (So please include how your piece accomplishes this in the description.) Depending upon the volume of submissions, acceptance may be limited, with preference given to new pieces (i.e. those not shown in previous years) and to pieces by those affiliated with UW Neuroscience.

If accepted, your artwork must be completed by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th. Any question about submission requirements or the exhibit in general can be directed to [email protected]. If you'd like to contribute a musical performance to the event, please email us as well! We'd love to have you on stage.

Posted • Finally got to see my piece “Mirror Neuron Neuron Mirror” (or one half of it at least haha) at North Seattle College’s Continuing Education Student Art Show!
The show is open to the public from 12-2pm and 5-7pm until August 15th! Stop by to see a lot of really cool work by some pretty talented people (and also the outdoor art outside the building, which was pretty nifty too).
