Spectrum Dance Theater (SDT) was founded in 1982 to bring dance to a diverse audience. Plans for national and international touring continue to grow.
(227)

Under Donald Byrd’s visionary artistic leadership since 2002, the organization has embarked on an exhilarating transformation that has attracted world-class dancers, produced some of the most avant-garde works in contemporary dance, and generated local and national praise. In addition to its Mainstage productions at The Moore Theatre, SDT launched in February 2006 its first STUDIO SERIES at the Madrona Dance Studios.

Inside the studio where OCCURRENCE begins.

Before the audience arrives, there is the studio: movement being tested, ideas being challenged, and artists working through the questions that will eventually meet the stage.

That process is at the heart of OCCURRENCE, Spectrum Dance Theater’s longstanding season-opening series and one of the Company’s most anticipated traditions. These new rehearsal images offer a look inside the room as the Company prepares for OCCURRENCE #15.

Join us this October for the next installment!

Contemporary dance, made in Seattle.

For nearly twenty-five years under Donald Byrd’s artistic leadership, Spectrum Dance Theater has built a body of work defined by rigorous physicality, provocative ideas, and choreography that asks audiences to think deeply about history, identity, memory, and the world around them.

This season opens with OCCURRENCE #15, continuing one of Spectrum’s most anticipated traditions: beginning the year with a new installment of the OCCURRENCE series. Rooted in experimentation, play, and process, each edition offers a fresh entry point into the Company’s evolving artistic practice.
