Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra

Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra Our mission is to enrich and inspire our communities through performance, outreach and education.

The Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra has strong ties to cities surrounding Lake Washington. Since its inception in 2012, LWSO has brought programming to the community including Music from Destiny - 'Video Games at the Symphony', numerous Christmas Pops concerts, an annual Education Concert for local elementary students, an annual Sensory Friendly Halloween Children's Concert for our youngest an

d most sensory sensitive audience members, and incredible Masterworks Concerts led by conductor Michael Mirapolsky. Our theme, Music Unites Us All, is a guiding force when it comes to our program planning and we strive to embrace this even more in the coming years.

A really important message.
I don’t know any organizations who aren’t struggling in some capacity. Things are dire and we need the support of the community.

The National Symphony Orchestra is caught in the middle of President Trump's muddled meddling in the Kennedy Center - here's how the public can help.

This sounds exciting!

Last week, Leo Sarbanes successfully defended his dissertation, "Orchestra for All: Community, Race, and Storytelling at the 20th-Century American Symphony."

Leo’s dissertation traces the historical relationship between orchestras and their local communities in the United States over the course of the 20th century, particularly as they navigate changing populations and calls for social justice. He argues that each orchestra’s history of success and failure in community service is a valuable resource for them to design effective engagement initiatives in the present.

Congratulations, Leo!

In May 2022, our Phoenix Rising concert invited audiences into a vibrant celebration of AANHPI heritage — a program shaped by artists, composers, and cultural traditions from across Asia and the Pacific.

This was our first full performance post-Covid, and we wanted to honor and celebrate the culture and diversity of the Asian community in our region.

This month, we return to that spirit — recognizing the artists who inspire us, the stories that move us, and the communities that make the Eastside so beautifully diverse.

Music unites us all.

And we’re proud to continue building a symphonic home where every culture has a place on our stage.

You can watch the concert for free on our website.

Today is GiveBIG — a day when Washington comes together to lift up the organizations that make our communities stronger.

At the Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra, everything we do is rooted in one belief: music unites us all. Your support today helps us create concerts and education programs where every person—every age, every background, every neighborhood—feels welcome.

When you GiveBIG, you’re helping us:
🎶 Keep concerts accessible for families and seniors
🎶 Bring thousands of students to their first live orchestra experience
🎶 Build programs that reflect the cultures and stories of our region
🎶 Create spaces where people feel connected, seen, and part of something bigger

Community isn’t something that just happens. We build it—moment by moment, note by note, together.

💛 Join us today and help keep this music, this joy, and this sense of belonging alive.

It’s a really hard time for the arts sector right now.

At least 250 Washington arts workers have been laid off recently. We analyzed potential impacts on the local arts scene, from artists to theaters and audiences.

I believe we already know this intuitively, but it is nice to have an actual study to point to. When you have a spare minute (or month), I encourage you to review this 66 page report from the National Endowment for the Arts. This is incredibly powerful and moving and should lead all conversations around cutting arts programs in our schools.
