Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day and we’re inviting you to look closer look at a SAM collection work: “Breakfast Series” by Sonny Assu ().

Sonny Assu (Ligwiłda’xw of the Kwakwaka’wakw Nations) was raised in North Delta, BC, over 250 km from his ancestral home on Vancouver Island. Often autobiographical, his work can be humorous, laden with pop culture, comic book, and sci-fi references.

This is your sign to visit the Olympic Sculpture Park. 🛑

With the help of Studio Matthews, SAM's waterfront park got a signage glow-up this summer. Bright red wayfinding guides you to—and through—the park, along with beautifully-designed landscape and nature displays, updated artwork labels, and other special touches to help you enjoy the nine-acre, outdoor space.

There's so much to discover at the Olympic Sculpture Park—and now, it's easier to find it all. See you there!

The circus is coming to SAM 🎪

"Karon Davis: Not My Circus" uses familiar, yet unsettling figures such as a knife-thrower's assistant, a weeping clown, and a ringmaster to explore performance and power. By drawing parallels between the circus tent’s public personas and the private power dynamics of greater society, Davis brings the personal dramas of our lives front and center.

Davis is 2025 recipient of the Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence Prize. The prize was created in honor of Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence, renowned artists and Seattle residents who recognized the need to advocate for Black artists.

🤡 See "Not My Circus" on view at the Seattle Art Museum starting November 5.

🔊 Sound on for artwork ASMR.

Located in the Seattle Art Museum's Brotman Forum, Chris Kallmyer's "Song Cycle" blends poetry and sound using a 256-character split-flap readymade sign. The kinetic sculpture features ever-changing text that gently clatters amidst museum activity.

Not sweat, not condensation, but a secret glazing technique! 🤯

Artist Kondō Takahiro blends silver, gold, platinum, and glass to create a mesmerizing metallic glaze that mimics water droplets. His innovative overglaze technique—which he calls "gintekisai," or silver mist—is so unique that he patented it.

Experience silver mist IRL in “The Kondō Family: Storytellers in Clay,” now on view at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
