University of Washington Choirs

University of Washington Choirs The University of Washington is home to seven choral ensembles that have won performance and recording awards regionally and nationally.

The University of Washington’s choral community is a lively mixture of graduate conducting students, teachers-in-training, and vocalists exploring diverse musical experiences under the guidance of nationally noted choral pedagogues. The academic degree programs in choral conducting, teacher certification coursework offered through the Music Education program, and the UW’s array of choral ensembles

open to majors and non-majors from throughout the university create a rich environment for scholarship and performance in the choral arts.

What a great day of singing, teaching, learning, and inspiration! Along with Nicole Lamartine, Angie Kasper, and Giselle Wyers’ inspired teaching, we held master classes led by our graduate choral conductors. Michael McKenzie teaching the power of the Wring, Heidi Blythe introducing Laban movements, Justin Birchell playing with Indian rhythms-TaKaDdiMi! Not shown is Egija Unhure teaching about the miracle of choral singing in the Baltic, Scott Fikse turning a hundred singers on to barbershop, and forgive me if I am forgetting any! Thanks too to Larke Witten for her organizational genius, as well as Evan Norberg, Cee Adamson, David Ferguson and a host of our choral students to make our UW Choral Festival a great day.
