PRESS RELEASE

February 7, 2025

The City of Aberdeen (City) is seeking an artist, or artist team, to develop a site specific, permanent, sign for display on the Wishkah River Bridge (see Exhibit A attached). The artwork should reflect Aberdeen's unique identity and may draw from various aspects of the city’s history, culture, and natural environment. The City has allocated a budget of $2,500 for the artist’s compensation, with additional funding for fabrication and installation covered separately by the City. This opportunity is open to all artists.
Design proposals and statements of interest are due no later than 2:00 P.M., PDT, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The City may elect to accept, reject or reopen this RFP at its sole discretion, should it be deemed necessary.

THE FOUNDERS EXHIBIT

I can hardly believe it’s been 20 years since we opened our doors. 20 great years! Tenants suggested we celebrate with a show of the four founders — Joany Ross, John Clark Gleason, Jay Lazerwitz and myself.

I’m very excited about this show. It inspired me to lock myself in the studio and create a new body of work inspired by our sojourn with the Maasai.

There will be two openings:
Saturday March 9, 3-9PM
Saturday April 13, 3-9PM

The gallery will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 3-6PM from March 13 - May 1.

We are looking forward to celebrating with you!

BallardWorks turned 20 on the 13th of February… yes … it was a FRIDAY THE 13th when we opened 20 years ago. To celebrate, our tenants asked us to have a “Founders” exhibit. Very exciting … getting all the pieces together now. It’s going to be awesome. Come celebrate with us on Saturday 9 March, 3-9PM!
