Mahshad Zareizadeh plays Shideh in WISH YOU WERE HERE.

Mahshad (Mah-shaad→ mɑːʃɑːd) is a whimsical spirit with a contagious laugh and a hopeful heart, always seeking beauty in the mundane. As a pre-med student, she charts her own course, piecing together answers quietly, never wishing to trouble anyone. She sees the world through a vibrant, artistic lens, always searching for the extraordinary in the everyday.

June 11 - July 5

With tenderness, ferocity, and wit, five best friends lean on each other in the face of uncertainty.  Spanning 13 years of friendship, a tight-knit group of women have their bonds tested as political unrest spreads through Iran. With humor and urgency, the play captures the fierce resilience of connection when everything else is slipping away.

“It’s a script of harrowing beauty. A triumphant mosaic of friendship and loss framed by the heart-wrenching effects of political upheaval.” – Broadway World UK

“A love letter to friendship.” – The Guardian

In a moment when so much of our world feels uncertain and disconnected, A Visible Existence asks a simple but urgent question: how can art reveal the hidden worlds we carry inside?

This season brings together bold stories, unforgettable personalities, and thrilling theatrical experiences – from intimate storytelling to high-energy musical celebration, from sharp comedy to gripping psychological suspense.  Across these plays, artists, dreamers, outsiders, and communities struggle to connect, to create, and to understand themselves and one another through art, memory, music, and  imagination.

AFONG MOY – female, Chinese, plays age 14-60s
ATUNG – male, Chinese, older than Afong

SYNOPSIS
The real story Afong Moy, a Chinese woman displayed as a living exhibit in 1800s America to sell Chinese imports. Told in first person from her point of view, she recounts a half-century of performing her culture to curious onlookers and consumers, with only the company of her translator Atung. Her aspirations shift with the passing of time as she discovers what it means to reclaim her story. The Chinese Lady is a funny, heartbreaking, and devastatingly contemporary portrait of America through the unflinching gaze of a Chinese woman.
