van den Bosch Studios Multimedia Artist and Freelance Photographer Technology can challenge how humanity interprets and interacts with reality.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Addressing evolutionary dynamics of the intermingling between biology and technology, my work poses the question of whether harmony between the two is attainable. Will technology offer a new utopian paradigm? Will technology unshackle social Sisyphean behaviorism? Will humanity transcend the limits of body, mind and spirit? Portraying fictional worlds where futurist concepts explore visual manipulation of body and environment, many questions and stories arise within the work. For more information on both solo and collaborative projects along with booking photography services, please discover my web links:www.vandenboschstudios.com

FINAL DAY — EDMONDS ART STUDIO TOUR

Today I’m focusing on the details.

Surfaces, textures, layers, edges, marks, materials—and the smaller moments within the work that aren’t always visible from across a room or on a screen.

This weekend I’ve opened my studio and home to share more than 50 works spanning ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, and mixed media. Many of these pieces come from very different bodies of work, created over a number of years, but seeing them together reveals connections I don’t always notice when they’re separated.

If you’re out for the final day of the Edmonds Art Studio Tour, stop by, spend some time with the work, and take a closer look.

Seattle Art Fair — Day 4

As the Seattle Art Fair comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who stopped by the Shift Gallery booth this weekend. Whether you spent a few moments with the work, asked thoughtful questions, shared your own interpretations, or took a piece home, I’m grateful for every conversation.

This year’s presentation included selections from my Signal to Noise series, an ongoing body of work that examines information, perception, and the ways meaning is constructed through material, image, and object. Seeing people engage with the work, make unexpected connections, and share their own perspectives is one of the most rewarding parts of exhibiting.

A heartfelt thank you to Shift Gallery and its members for another outstanding presentation. Special thanks to our curator, Jo Mikesell, whose vision, organization, and dedication made this exhibition possible. I’m also grateful to the Seattle Art Fair for bringing together such an incredible community of artists, galleries, collectors, and visitors. It has been an honor to be part of this year’s fair.

Thank you for following along these past four days. Until next time.

Day 3 at the Seattle Art Fair.

This 18”x24” two-screen, hand-pulled silkscreen print is from an edition of 10. The imagery is based on industrial forms arranged into a Rorschach-like composition. Like the classic inkblot test, it invites viewers to search for meaning in an intentionally ambiguous image. But instead of psychology, the source material comes from the visual language of industry, manufacturing, and consumption.

The print is directly connected to the ceramic vessels in my Signal to Noise series. Many of the forms carry fragments of these same industrial images, wrapping around objects that reference commodity, value, and the systems we build around them. Together, the prints and ceramics explore how our understanding of the world is shaped by the images, symbols, and information we consume every day.

If you’re at the Seattle Art Fair this weekend, stop by Shift Gallery’s booth B01!

Day 2 at the Seattle Art Fair.

One of the works in my Signal to Noise series is this Soy Commodity Vessel.

The colored stripes aren’t decorative. They’re a custom visual language I developed. Each stripe represents a letter, with the thinnest stripe corresponding to A and the widest to Z. Together, the sequence of stripes spells SOY, embedding the commodity directly into the surface of the vessel.

I’m interested in how information can be encoded, hidden in plain sight, and interpreted differently depending on whether we know how to read it. Like so much of the information we encounter every day, meaning isn’t always immediately visible.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by on opening night for the thoughtful conversations. I’ll be at the Shift Gallery booth today from 3:00–7:00 PM, and the Seattle Art Fair is open 11:00 AM–7:00 PM. If you’re attending, I’d love to show you how the work is constructed and talk about the ideas behind the series.

We’re here at Olympia Zine Fest and it’s been great seeing so many people digging through zines, artist books, prints, and publications.

We’ve been having wonderful conversations with artists, readers, makers, and fellow lovers of independent publishing all day.

If you’re in Olympia, there’s still time to stop by. Come browse, chat, and discover some incredible work from the vibrant Pacific Northwest zine community.
