Brooke Westlund is a native Seattle painter whose abstract paintings explore her love of life and the beautiful city of Seattle and all that it encompasses: texture, simplicity, complexity, movement, color, spontaneity, awareness. Brooke’s mixed media abstract paintings show her world through her photography, differen

t types of paints, dry pigments, stamps, encyclopedia cut outs, high gloss varnishes, and found materials. She blends them with large brushstrokes, splatters, drips and bold colors. Most of Brooke’s time is spent in her studio and gallery in the eclectic Pike Place Market where you can find her most recent work. You can also see her work on display at Reclaim Decor, Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery and Alki Arts.

If you’re lucky enough, you’ll find a friend like Rhonda in this lifetime! We only met a year ago, but it feels like way longer.

Last night we had a play date exploring alcohol links and delaminating inks. We played for five hours and we could’ve probably done another five hours doing this!

do you have any tips for using these into acrylic paintings as collage elements without messing up the ink?

Being an artist is such a solitary persuit, mostly spending a lot of time alone creating. Rhonda has an angel for me being able to talk about nerdy art things and materials and feedback about Paintings. And she has helped me learn so much!
