Equinox Studios - The Creative Industrial Complex has breathed new life to a 30,000 square foot industrial building circa 1941, in the southwest corner of the historic Georgetown neighborhood. With studios ranging from 120-3000 square feet, Equinox is now the creative space for over 40 artists and artisans from all disciplines... metalworking, woodworking, ceramics, painting, photography, design,

video, sculpture, and much more. Equinox is open to the public every second Saturday during the Georgetown Art Walk and holds an annual open house each December. It is also the home base for the new Georgetown Art Ride, a shuttle bus that will take you to several shuttle stops throughout the neighborhood to enhance your art walk experience.

Meet our August Artist of the Month, Kree Arvanitas of RebelDog Studio!

A bit about herself, in Kree’s own words:

I am a mixed-media artist based in Seattle, dba RebelDog Studio, and a member of the Equinox arts community.

Currently focusing on gouache, acrylic, altered photos, mixed media, and collage as my “weapons of choice,” my interest in environmental preservation and planetary degradation is reflected frequently in my paintings, along with intimations of gender, power, and human liberation. I frequently use surreal, anachronistic, or mythological elements to express these ecodystopian themes. Lately these concerns have taken on a more abstract, emotional appearance.

My work has appeared in a variety of media, including cover art for the Tiger’s Saga New York Times bestselling series, several online art and fashion magazines, and Jen Tough’s 2021 Fun Size book highlighting miniature painting. Most recently, my painting Twitter Revolution In Heaven was featured as the cover art for Sima Shakhsari’s The Politics of Rightful Killing: Civil Society, Gender, and Sexuality in Weblogistan, published by Duke University Press.
I have curated a number of exhibitions at A/NT Gallery and have shown my work at Bonfire Gallery, Base Camp 1 and 2, Center on Contemporary Art, A/NT Gallery, Lynn Hanson Gallery, and, of course, Equinox Studios.
I am committed to assisting Equinox in exploring, creating, and developing public art projects and volunteering to spread the vision of Equinox as a viable, living, and thriving arts community. My hope is that my support efforts will become a permanent part of contributing to that community adventure!

The dog days of summer are here—which means it’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house and wander.

We’re kicking things off a little earlier than usual, giving you extra time to explore four buildings filled with working artists and creative surprises. Sniff out paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography, metalwork, woodworking, puppets, performance, multimedia magic, and more. Grab a popsicle or pizza, catch DJ Luscious Leopard Lips, and chat with artists.

Go behind the scenes with July Artist of the Month, Clara Schmitt.

Every sculpture begins with careful observation and a figure modeled from life. From there, Clara creates molds that allow individual forms to be repeated, fragmented, and reassembled into entirely new compositions. What starts as a single figure gradually becomes something more complex—where no one angle tells the whole story.

This glimpse into Clara’s process offers a look at the patient experimentation behind her work, from the first marks in clay to the evolving sculptural forms that emerge through repetition.

Meet our July Artist of the Month: Clara Schmitt!

Clara Schmitt is a figurative sculptor and instructor in the Magrath Sculpture Atelier at Gage Academy of Art.

In Clara’s own words:

I’m French American figurative sculptor. Born and raised in Paris, France I moved to Seattle in 2015 and started training in 2021 at the Magrath Sculpture Atelier of Gage Academy of Art, located in Equinox (Studio C!). I graduated in 2025 and am currently teaching sculpture classes at Gage.

My work begins with a figure modeled in clay from life. Rather than treating the initial figure as a finished sculpture, I use it as the starting point for a longer process. From that original sculpture I make molds that allow the same forms to be repeated, fragmented, and recombined. As fragments accumulate, the work gradually shifts away from the original figure. Although every element remains rooted in observation, fragments and repetition produce new spatial relationships and volumes.

I started developing this process because I was not satisfied by how a classically modeled body offers a single coherent view of a figure. By repeating and recombining observed forms, each piece is structured so that no single pose, fragment, or viewpoint can account for the whole.

The Magrath Sculpture Atelier is a multi-year, part-time program at Gage Academy of Art designed to give students the skills and confidence to practice figurative sculpture at a high level of excellence.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the celebration of the emancipation of Black enslaved folks in America. The word Juneteenth is a combination of the words June and nineteen. The date, June 19th, marks the final announcement of emancipation delivered to the 250,000 individuals still enslaved in Texas in 1865, after the original announcement in 1863. Celebrations began in 1866 and grew in popularity between the 1920s and 1930s, centering on faith, food, and the arts. The holiday became federally recognized in 2021, under President Joe Biden.
