🚨 Help us name our sea otter research drone!

This year, Aquarium scientists began using a small drone to help monitor sea otters on Washington’s outer coast, making us the first known organization in the state to use drones for this purpose. Our researchers hope that this project will (literally) give us a new perspective on otter populations, foraging habits, geographic range and more! 🦦

Just one problem: We still don't have a name for our drone! Comment below with your suggestions and check back next week to see which name wins. 👇👀

Happy World Otter Day! 🦦✨ Today we're celebrating the five fabulous otters in our care: sea otters Ruby, Sekiu and Mishka, and North American river otters Molalla and Zweigle! 💙

Have you ever wondered how to tell the otters in our care apart? Here's a quick guide on how to differentiate between them:

🪣 Mishka has a darker face than Sekiu and Ruby.
🦀 Sekiu has a blonder face than Mishka.
❤️ Ruby also has a blonder face but (being a southern sea otter) is slightly smaller than both Mishka and Sekiu.
🪨 Molalla has a blonder face and a slightly bigger head than Zweigle.
🌭 Zweigle has darker fur on his head and cheeks and has a slightly smaller head than Molalla.

We celebrated Casey's special day with one of his favorite enrichment items: custom ice treats! A true Pacific Northwesterner, Casey was born at the Seaside Aquarium in Seaside, Oregon in 2014 and came to the Seattle Aquarium in 2022. 💙
