A healthy shoreline doesn't just support salmon. It helps sustain birds traveling thousands of miles.
Each year millions of birds flying south rest or overwinter in the estuaries, shorelines, and wetlands of the Puget Sound. Our same local habitats that support juvenile salmon also serve as refueling stations for migratory birds traveling along the Pacific Flyway from the Arctic, Alaska, and western Canada.
According to the Audubon, Puget Sound-area bird watchers should keep an eye out this fall for Surf Scoters, Dunlin, Western Sandpipers, Northern Pintails, American Wigeon, Trumpeter Swans, and Bald Eagles, among others.
