⚰️I MUST KNOW EVERYTHING...⚰️

What pairs better with German Expressionism than doom metal and shoegaze? Sleepbomb comes to Seattle to live-score THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI this September.

Take a step into the distorted world carnivals and funerals, love and murder, somnambulists and insanity. CALIGARI defined expressionism and inspired filmmakers across the planet. The Weimar Republic was a time of tremendous freedom in Germany, and that's reflected in the bizarre sets and pioneering storytelling techniques of that era.

Sleepbomb is a San Francisco-based cinematic psychedelic post-rock band focused on full, original scores for genre films including The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu and Metropolis, George Romero’s 1968 Night of the Living Dead and John Milius’ 1982 neo-peplum, Conan the Barbarian.

Happy Birthday Lynn!

Today we celebrate the birthday of beloved filmmaker Lynn Shelton by announcing that we are launching this year's "Of A Certain Age" grant, a project-based award that provides $25,000 to an individual woman, non-binary, and/or transgender U.S. filmmaker, age 39 or older, who is working on their first narrative feature (65 minutes or over) as a director. This grant seeks to recognize a film director for their distinct vision, storytelling, and singularity. If you are interested in applying, check out our link in bio.

"It is so hard to believe that we are kicking off our seventh cycle of the Lynn Shelton ""Of A Certain Age"" grant. This grant was created to continue Lynn's legacy of support for her fellow artists, and I know how gratified she would be to see the work and careers it has amplified and uplifted. Huge thanks to all the ongoing supporters of the grant, including Mark & Jay Duplass, Eliza Flug, AJ Epstein, COLOR Creative, Steve & Lacey Leavitt Gray, Michaela S Watkins, Olivia Newman, Rob & Jennessa West, CB Shamah, and Marc Maron."
-Megan Griffiths, NWFF Board President

If you would like to add your name to this list of supporters, please go to our Donate page and select "Of A Certain Age Grant" from the designation list.

🏠 YOU DIDN’T COME IN HERE TO WASH YOUR HANDS 🏠

A coming of age classic, WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE wowed indie film fans in the 90’s and still speaks to the universally awkward experience of middle school. By winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, this film paved the way for later quirky but brutally honest indie classics.

🚬 I’LL BE DEAD AT 30… MAKE THAT 29 🚬

Long unseen and hard to find, Gregg Araki’s debut feature film THREE BEWILDERED PEOPLE IN THE NIGHT is a stunning example of low/no budget DIY filmmaking at its best. Following a messy and tumultuous love triangle held together by a gay performance artist, his friend, and her boyfriend, Araki (in an early but unmistakably Arakian way) begs the question of where one might find love in the modern world, if that’s even possible.

🛸 OKAY’S A RELATIVE TERM 🛸

Dark secrets buried in the past are unearthed in the newly remastered Gregg Araki classic MYSTERIOUS SKIN. Following a magnetic but emotionally unstable s*x worker and a socially awkward teen convinced he was abducted by a UFO, Araki explores the ways in which trauma inform our lives even when we try to look away from it.

We're also excited to announce that author Scott Heim will be joining us in person after the 7pm shows on August 29th and 30th for conversations about the book and it's adaptation!

If seeing MYSTERIOUS SKIN in 4k isn't enough Araki for you, we've got you covered! Catch THREE BEWILDERED PEOPLE IN THE NIGHT, Araki's hard to find debut feature as a part of our Araki double feature TWO ANGELS IN THE NIGHT.

🐮 HISTORY ISN’T HERE YET 🐮

Kelly Reichardt once again trains her perceptive and patient eye on the Pacific Northwest, this time evoking an authentically hardscrabble early nineteenth century way of life. An antisocial cook and Chinese immigrant seek to make their fortunes in the West by starting a business that’s reliant upon a rich neighbor's cow.
