Another cycle has been completed with Global Groove, I feel grateful and I don’t take any of it for granted, bringing our energy to this space was a pleasure, we got live music back consistently and consolidated the event to a single room. I get it, there’s something so exciting about having a multi-room event where you get to choose what you want and transit the space at your own pace, AND! there’s something about practicing patience, tolerance and even a bit of discomfort. That’s what the single room brings to the game, it takes reciprocity to great community, let’s never forget that.

As we go into hibernation I want to take a moment to thank everyone who was part of this residency, you all made it incredibly special, thank you for bringing your music and for the vulnerability. Madame Lou’s was a big step up for many of us and we fu***ng killed it. I also want to thank The Crocodile for the trust and support in our vision and special shout out to the Madame Lou’s crew who made it all come to life with such intentionality and professionalism. If there’s something I am really gonna miss is you the people who work there and that unfortunately are losing your jobs due to this sad situation. I wish you all the best in the future, you deserve it.

I want to thank Eli and Vale as they were the perfect partners in crime during this adventure, together we created so much magic and I truly hope we continue to do so. I also want to thank Luis Crono for the amazing posters and EVERYONE who helped us with all the moving pieces.

Moving forward there’s a lot to evaluate, specially how we want to be participating (or not) in this game, an industry that is moving towards metric-centered decisions in order to survive. When we are forced to talking “business”, we get distracted from our real purpose that is creating community and continue celebrating our city’s diversity through music and arts.

To all of you who believe in us, support us, and need this space, know that we’re not going anywhere. We’ll be back. We believe in you, support you, and need you just the same.

Thank you all for your support and for enabling Global Groove to exist. See you next year.

Dónde está la familia Seattleña?

These days our community has been going through tough times and we know that September is charged with nostalgic memories and lots of heritage pride. That’s why this Saturday we are going to tirar la casa por la ventana. 🥵🥵

We all now that el lenguaje del pacífico is cumbia and we are honored, SO HONORED to have a band that makes cumbia here in the PNW.

Expect old clásicos para las tias y las abuelitas and some psych cumbia originals.

Come celebrate with Orquestra Pacifico Tropical and a special DJ set by our beloved Papi Fimbres.

And that’s not all, we also have special guest visiting from New York with Yiddish Techno and local legend with a vinyl set with music from all around the world.

Tomorrow, King Steady makes his long-awaited debut with a killer DJ set—plus a crate of 45s for sale. Get ready for nothing but pure vinyl fire.🔥

Opening the night, joins Rolas Con Alma—the fresh project from , , and . This collective of Mexican vinyl selectors brings raw, authentic energy to the PNW on the regular (including this Saturday alongside King Steady at ).🤝🤝🤝

The night also features a live set from , an electrifying new local project exploring Cumbia Futurista.💥

Also, we’ve partnered with , where King Steady will be spinning during their dinner service this Saturday.🍕🤝

King steady Beat aka Luis started djing at 13, backyard parties and such, at 18 it was the high energy/electrofunk parties, fast forward to 1992, started a record label, produced many Ska/reggae events considered the Golden era of Ska in Los Angeles, paused the Djing, started producing music for the label, fast forward 2008-Co founded Club Fiyah /Ska-Reggae, Rockers on the Waterfront 2010-2015, in 2011 founded a club called Barrio Funky and introduced a slew of new Latin talent to the stage and everyone went Cumbia after that. In 2014 founded Babalu to Boogaloo focusing on 50’s Tropical music to 70′ Latin Soul. Continuing to produce singles for the Steady Beat Recordings label. Djing genres from Reggae to Ska , Cumbia, Boogaloo, Salsa, Tropical, Latin Funk all on vinyl records. He also owns Steady Beat Records, a record store in San Pedro, Ca.

Who doesn’t remember ‘s sexy coconut water dance ? 🥥💦🪩

Hans has been a huge part of GG since the beginning 🌎🪩

His support and knowledge has been incredibly inspiring 🙌

He used to bring his own decks every month to LoFi, lead the second room featuring African music, he was constantly sharing his extensive knowledge about music, always trying to connect with African local communities, brought Mr Nice to the fam (legend says he gave him that name), was a huge part of bringing Rumba DB (a little dream we had for a long time, to have a live Congolese rumba band at GG). 💭💡

Then he was also a part of our Rendezvous stage before moving to Madagascar. 💔

Well Hans is now visiting Seattle, will be opening GG this Friday and it hapens to be HIS BIRTHDAY. 🎂 🎉

We are BEYOND EXCITED to celebrate you my friend. 🫶

We cannot wait for that sweet Congolese rumba (and beyond) vinyl collection that we haven’t heard in too long. 🪩🌎🐊✨
