Congratulations to Side Rail member Lily Hotchkiss Lily Hotchkiss , whose work is on view in the group show Botanical Alchemy at Elizabeth Jameson! 🌺

Make a night of it tomorrow, Saturday, Oct 10 with two stops:

1️⃣ Art Attack in the Side Rail gallery, 4–8 pm
📍 5511 Airport Way S, Georgetown

2️⃣ Closing reception for Botanical Alchemy, 6–9 pm
📍 Fresh Mochi, 2900 21st Ave S, Beacon Hill

Lily’s practice centers on storytelling, told through fiber, paint, found and recycled objects, and mixed media. Her pieces in this show are mostly fiber, full of color and bloom, and they’re even better up close. This is your last chance to see them in person.

We’re lucky to have Lily at Side Rail.

Pictured here with Kelly Lyles.

We’re so proud of you, Lily. See you Saturday!

Congratulations to Side Rail member Christen Coomer (Deodata Jewelry Design), whose piece “Scrying My Eyes Out” is now on view in Occultus at The Vestibule in Ballard! 💀

On view through October 31
📍 The Vestibule, 5919 15th Ave NW, Seattle
Gallery hours Fri and Sat, 12–5 pm, and by appointment
Guest curated by Jay Stoneking

Occultus gathers artworks that live on the boundary between art and the occult, when making becomes ritual or sacred practice.

Christen is a studio jeweler and metalsmith who builds reliquaries meant to function, not just symbolize. “Scrying My Eyes Out” holds her grandmother Deo’s Egyptian Revival owl pin in an opening at its back. The owl faces a mirror set in dimensional sterling wire, with BEHOŁD stamped on copper behind him, the letters struck upside down so the mirror rights them in its reflection. Below, incense burns in a gothic-arched cage, the smoke rising between owl and glass. 🦉💨🪞

✨ Community connection!

Aistė (ice-teh) is a Lithuanian-American visual artist who works primarily in acrylic on canvas. From her statement: “As a DeafQueer artist and immigrant, Aistė lives in between worlds and sees what is often felt when unspoken.” Her work is inspired by dreams, astronomy, aiki movement, pagan spirituality, somatic memory, and Lithuanian mythology.

She invites you to take a moment with each piece and notice what comes up: “What is your intuition communicating to you?”

We’re so proud of you, Aistė. See you Thursday!

🔥 Congratulations to Side Rail member Rhina Navas R.present.S on her FIRST exhibition, and a sale to boot! 🔥

Rhina’s piece “Is It Too Hot?” holds toes she cast and formed in precious metal clay. Set in mixed media, they’re what’s left of the body after the heat, the fire, a real burn. In her words: “not much from us will be left, but… much of the plastic that cuddles us, will.” A tender and moving first piece, and now it’s found a home. We’re so proud of you, Rhina! 👣✨

Huge thanks to member and lead curator Cody Ray Pementer Cody Ray and to every artist who took part, for a wonderful run of Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes Heads, Shoulder, Knees & Toes at the Side Rail Gallery. 🖤

Our next show opens Saturday, October 3rd. We hope to see you there!
