Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) is a leadership and service organization founded in 1997 to advocate for the region's growing theatre community's causes and administer much-needed services. TPS is now the Northwest's premiere arts advocacy and leadership organization, providing programming and services that benefit both the theatre community and the larger regional arts community.

Tomorrow is Juneteenth. Theatre Puget Sound will be out of office so same-day reservations and on-call support will not be available during that time. Please make your reservation at least one day in advance as we won’t be available for administrative support on the day-of.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after emancipation. It's a day of celebration and a day of reckoning, and the performing arts have never been separate from either.

We are lucky to be rooted in a region where that work is happening right now. From the Negro Repertory Company that called Seattle home in the 1930s, to Valerie Curtis-Newton and The Hansberry Project centering Black stories on our stages for over 20 years, to Michelle Nicole Matlock taking home three Gregory Awards this last season for The Mammy Project - that work has always been here.

TPS staff will have tomorrow off in recognition of Juneteenth. We hope you'll spend some of it out in the community.

Here's what's happening:
🎢 Juneteenth Freedom Fest at Jimi Hendrix Park β€” June 19, 12–8pm. R&B artist Marsha Ambrosius performing live. Free. Tickets here.
πŸ›οΈ Northwest African American Museum: "The Sound of Connection" β€” June 19, 10am–5pm at Judkins Park. Free museum admission, local artists, performances. Info here.
🎡 Winter in America: A Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson Tribute β€” The Royal Room, June 19. Doors 6:30, show 7:30. Some of the best musicians in the PNW on one stage. Info here.

See you out there. πŸ–€

What are YOU going to sing for karaoke? 🎀🌈

Starting at 1 PM, after the Pride Parade, TPS is opening our doors to musical theatre lovers and karaoke superstars alike!

Stop by for a popsicle, grab a cold cocktail, and keep the celebration going by belting out your favorite tunes.

Knowing the TPS Staff, we'll probably kick things off with some Queen or Wicked! What song are you bringing to the stage? 🎢✨

Did You Know: TPS Members have access to three free workshops a year. Put this Membership Benefit to use immediately and sign up for Artist Website 101: Building a Simple Website That Works. Register online: https://theatrepugetsound.org/event/artist-website-101-building-a-simple-website-that-works/

This workshop is designed for anyone working in theatre and the performing arts β€” performers, directors, designers, technicians β€” who want to build or improve a professional website that actually gets them hired. Drawing from Malia's background as both a theatre performer and a digital marketer, attendees will leave knowing exactly what their artist website needs to do, and how to make it happen.

Workshop agenda:

1. Why your website is the center of gravity for you as a "business owner"
2. Website basics demystified β€” hosting, domains, and platforms in plain English
3. The 5 things every artist website must do: Confirm, Solve, Trust, Contact, and create "the vibe"
4. What to include: headshot, resume, video reel, bio, gallery, and contact info
5. Design principles β€” making a first impression in under 50 milliseconds
6. Platform options for performers: Squarespace, Wix, and WordPress compared
7. Q&A and personal action planning

From this workshop, you will walk away with a clear, actionable roadmap for building or updating your artist website β€” knowing exactly what content you need, how to structure it, and which platform is the right fit for you.

We did it! πŸŽ‰

Thanks to your incredible generosity throughout May, we’ve officially reached and SURPASSED our GiveBIG goal of $3,000!

We are so grateful to every single person who gave, shared, and supported this campaign. Your belief in our work brought us to $3,313 and makes everything we do possible.

A special thank you to Tom Challinor for his generous $500 matching gift, our TPS Executive Committee: Ry Armstrong, Barbara Callander, and Lisa Johnson and our TPS Board of Directors. Your support helped double the impact of so many donations and played a key role in helping us reach our goal.

Because of all of you we can continue build up and support the performing arts of the Puget Sound.

From all of us at TPS: thank you for showing up, giving BIG, and making a real difference.
