Hi friends and family,

We are working on a feature film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline this spring! This lesser known play is one of Shakespeare’s “problem plays” (not quite a tragedy, comedy, or a war play, but a combination of the three).

This is a play about loyalty, royalty, and destiny. Cymbeline tells the tale of a British Princess who takes her fate into her own hands when her lover betrays her and her father attempts to lock her away in his castle. With threats of war looming from the Romans, and her long lost brothers hidden away in a cave, she embarks on a journey to find her true self-worth and destiny.
We have adapted this show to highlight the princesses strength and autonomy, while excluding passages that cannot be interpreted as racially or culturally appropriate for modern audiences. Because of this, we have condensed the story to emphasize the important and relevant themes of nationalism and misogyny, and plan to bring the final product to film festivals in order for the story to reach as many people as possible.
We hope to stream the final project in a scheduled showing, and will charge a small ticket price that we will donate the proceeds to a charity agreed upon by the cast and production team.

Because this is a student film, we need help fundraising our budget. We have hired an Emmy award winning cinematographer and will also be hiring a sound mixer for filming and need to purchase covid safety materials to make this project come to life. This means we need to raise $7,100 by March ‘21! We understand that because of quarantine, this may be harder to achieve than normal, so we are reaching out now to ask for your help!

We thank you for any contribution, and all of your support as we adapt our art in the unprecedented circumstances of this time.

We are looking for candidates to fill our cinematographer position on our production of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline. We are filming a staged reading/ adaptation across multiple locations in the Seattle area this spring that will be used as our director’s senior project and will be submitted to film festivals across Washington. Equipment is not required, but because of our limited budget, finding someone with their own equipment would be ideal. We are flexible about the editing process as well; if you have the training and can commit to the editing process, that would be greatly appreciated, but if not, we have plans to higher an editor if that is not possible.

Cinematographer’s Responsibilities:

* We are being very cautious of covid safety/regulations and expect that you do the same
* Coming to zoom meetings over the winter to plan shots, and sit in on at least one rehearsal
* Over the course of 5-10 days (in the spring) coming to in-person all day shoots in a church, bar, and multiple outdoor locations (Parks in Seattle and nearby national forests)
* Generally designing lighting in indoor and out door locations
* Basic understanding of Shakespeare’s work and the language used in his plays
* IF editing:
* working with the director on editing the footage focusing on story and textual continuity as well as style
* being able to complete the project by June 10th (hopefully much sooner than that)

Compensation:
* Willing to discuss individual rates as we build our budget
