On September 20th, 2017 a catastrophic hurricane made landfall in Puerto Rico, displacing hundreds of thousands of people into exodus and leaving the people left behind with little to no resources. While local and federal government failed to provide aid to a large majority of its citizens, several organizations stepped in place and scavenged through the wreckage to help the communities most in need.

One of these organizations is CETA, based out of Santurce, Puerto Rico. By providing food brigades to some of the most heavily impacted communities throughout the island, they've brought resilience-born compassion worthy of praise and recognition. After the storm and to this day, they have acted as a communication, food and aid distribution center for communities who have scarce resources.

Another organization that has been doing incredible work, even before the storm, is CAUCE. Based out of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, CAUCE has been working in coalition with the Brigradas de la Iglesia Bautista and local leaders to build and repair houses for low income families and those that were displaced by the storm. Currently, they are in need of basic home appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines and beds.

Our collective has already sent $2,000 to a group called Organización Boricuá, who are building farms on the island and helping puerto ricans gain back food security. We fundraised an additional $500 for water filters and items that were most needed on the island. But it’s not enough. We’d like to raise enough funds to help secure CETA and CAUCE’s role in providing communities with their ongoing support and survival.

We have already secured a venue, a headliner and local musicians for the concert, as well as speakers who will be providing information about what is happening on the island. The venue we have reserved, Columbia City Theater can hold over 300 people and will have small vendors and enough room for dancing during the event. The benefit concert will be held on Sunday, June 17th and will start at 5:00pm and run until 9:00 pm.

The concert will include a short presentation of the collective and videos of the organizations we are raising money for. The event will have a sliding scale ticket price and 100% of ticket sales will go directly to CETA and CAUCE. We will also have an information booth set up for folks who want to inquire more about the organizations we are donating to.

Please join us in aiding the survival of our people.
