SEEKING SCRIPTS FOR “TWISTED TALES” VIRTUAL ONE ACT FESTIVAL, 2026
Rainy Day Artistic Collective is seeking scripts for our annual Twisted Tales Virtual One Act Festival. We are not able to provide playwrights a stipend, but there is no submission fee and the event is free to attend for everyone - 100% of any donations go to fund future projects.
Theme: Short One Act Plays (i.e. 8-15 minutes in length) that are variations, adaptations, or other “twists” on a classic and/or well known story. These can include, but are not necessarily limited to, fairy tales, folk tales, public domain literature and plays, mythology and more - we absolutely don’t mind repeating stories we’ve “twisted” before as long as we haven’t produced that specific piece in the past (but please note that we are unlikely to twist the same story twice in the same year). Let your imagination run wild!
5 to 8 total scripts will be selected for this festival, depending on various factors. No scripts have been pre-selected for the lineup of this festival.
We ask that playwrights refrain from submitting scripts that are above a “PG-13” in rating (i.e. no nudity, excessive violence, or sexually explicit material). Please reach out with any questions.
Since our festival will be performed 100% virtually, plays that are specifically written for virtual performance, though not required, are a plus. Pieces that do not translate effectively from stage to screen may not be selected. Not required but helpful: if your piece is written originally for a “traditional stage,” you may include suggestions with your submission on how it might translate.
The festival will perform on December 4th and 5th, 2026, and be completely virtual. Both performances will have the same lineup of 5 to 8 scripts.
Scripts should be about 8-15 minutes long with 2-3 speaking characters. Scripts that are notably longer or shorter than this period will not be considered for the festival.
Please note, we will not be accepting: monologues, scripts that significantly exceed the recommended length (think roughly 1 to 1.5 minutes per page, depending on formatting), or scripts with more than 2-3 speaking characters total (alternatively, a casting plan for 2-3 actors can be submitted if a piece has more than 3 speaking roles). No exceptions will be made.
All pieces will be performed 100% live, i.e. on livestream and not pre-recorded, unless otherwise arranged. Actors will be performing from their homes or other chosen locations. RDAC has adopted a policy where, in the interest of providing a live theater experience to our virtual audiences and actors, we do not pre-record pieces except in unavoidable circumstances.
No experience required and no submission fees. Unfortunately we are not able to provide a stipend of any kind at this time, though we are working towards this as our top financial goal for future festivals as we (very slowly but surely) grow and expand our operations.
TO BE CONSIDERED: Please email a BLIND COPY (no identifying information whatsoever in the document) to us at [email protected] by no later than 11:59pm PST on October 1, 2026. To keep submissions fair, we cannot consider any plays that are not submitted as a blind copy.
Limit of one play submission per playwright. Joint authorship counts as submission for all authors. If more than one script is submitted by a playwright, we will select randomly between them. For this particular festival please do not submit excerpts from longer works (unless they are completely performable as a standalone piece with zero outside context).
LATE SUBMISSIONS OR THOSE THAT DO NOT FOLLOW ALL OF THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS EVENT.
