Add some Halloween ambiance to your classroom using a Bluetooth speaker

Step 1) Hide your Bluetooth speaker somewhere your kids won't expect

Step 2) Link your phone to the Bluetooth

Step 3) Play these on your phone

Haunted House: https://youtu.be/sCgqiOzXE-g
Wolf Howling: https://youtu.be/MJmW4gsvaVE
Attic Sounds: https://youtu.be/_uuM2t9CEAM

I usually combine all 3 and layer them when I link my Bluetooth to my laptop. I put Haunted House at 100% volume, Wolf howling at 30% and Attic sounds at 40%.

Halloween Lanterns

Material Needed
- Orange Paper
- Black Sharpie (Outline)
- Black Marker (Color in)
- Scissors
- Stapler

First draw your pumpkin face. Outline it with a black Sharpie. Demonstrate to your student how you carefully color it in (Marker). Allow them the chance to do it. Once it's colored in. Fold the paper in half hot dog style 🌭

Now take your Scissors and show your student where to cut (how to cut for those still developing their fine motor skills). Cut straight lines right to left giving about 3/4 inch of space between each line.

Complete the lantern by opening it up and stapling the ends together. Add the handle from an orange strip you cut.

Hello Everyone,

It's been a while. A lot has changed. I have two kids now. My world is fulfilled and beaming with love. I am still an educator and would love to continue to provide content and ideas for other teachers to use in the classroom.

Fine Motor Practice | Silhouette Painting

Material Needed
- Black construction paper (Preferably 8 x 12)
- White construction paper (8 x 12 or larger)
- Scissors
- Glue (Preferably Glue Sticks)
- Paint (Choose your own color palette)

Parents, if your child is 3 or 4 years old, challenge them to cut out mountain silhouettes. Trace out different size triangles connected together to make mountains. If your child needs help cutting, sit down and hold the scissors with them. Help guide their hand as they cut through.

For kids 5 or older, challenge them to create more intricate shapes like buildings and city skylines. For kids more advanced, trace out Dr. Suess like trees and birds.

When painting, choose your color palette, then demonstrate how to paint different layers while keeping the colors separate. Encourage your kid not to blend the colors all together. You want a multi-colored background.

Wait 12 hours for the paint to fully dry. Then glue on your silhouette when finished.

Easy Art Project | Heart Shaped Flowers

What you need
- Green paper stem
- 2 Green paper leaves
- 5 colored shaped hearts
- Tiny shaped hearts (optional)
- Black background paper

For parents with younger kids, pre-cut the hearts. Sit down with your child and guide them through cutting the stem and leaves.

For parents with older kids, challenge them to cut out the hearts, stem and leaves on their own. Once they are finished, assist them in writing a sentence offering a compliment or nice gesture to a love one or friend.

Sissy Daycare = Dad Win!

As a parent you have to utilize your resources. Some of you may have to work from home. Hand off some of your home schooling duties to one of your older kids.

In our household, our 11 year old is required to do 2 hours a day of "Sissy Daycare." That includes academic work, art work, or just sissy time hanging out together. We required 2 hours of our oldest but most days they've spent at least 3-4 hours together.

Parents, get creative and transform a room or a part of a room to look and feel more like a classroom. It will help your child detach from it being at home.

Check in later this week and I will show you how you can transform your room to feel more like a classroom

Homeschool Art Activity | Teacher Creatures

Create your own species of animal or merge a favorite animal of yours with the face of a person you know. Parents, this is easy to set up.

Materials needed
- Paper
- Markers, Crayons or Colored Pencils (Your choice)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Access to printer or magazines

The Set Up
- Print out headshots of friends or family members. If a teacher is kind enough to share a photo for this activity, your child would enjoy making a Teacher Creature using their own teacher. If printer access is not available, I would look for magazines and cut out the photos of people and celebrity in the magazines.

The Activity
- Show your child the examples we made with our Teacher Creatures to spark their interest
- Provide them their material and let them choose from your selection of pictures
- Ask them to cut out the head/face
- Allow them to freely create. Talk to them while they're creating. If you notice they're creating insect legs, steer the conversation towards insects and use it as a teaching moment

The Parent
- Participate with your child. Not only is it a good opportunity to bond and connect but it encourages the child to want to continue doing more

Create your own Superhero

Be creative, use your imagination and run with it. Don't be afraid to council your kid. They are more likely to think outside the box. We are more likely to think logical, restrained by the social constructs and conceptual image of a superhero embedded in us.

KFC Man was created using cardboard, sharpie and paint. Use the material and resources you have readily available at home. Get creative. Break out of what is usually the norm for a superhero, and create something truly original.

04/17/2020

Spice up your day. Challenge your kid to a dance battle. If you have multiple kids, challenge your kids to battle each other. Remember, academics is vital to maintain during quarantine, but movement is equally as important. Kids are active. They need to move around.
