Yesterday I hung up some paintings at the work space on the UW campus yesterday… the photos don’t quite do it justice because the installation looks incredible! Such a cool, light-filled space 💚

I’ve been having so much fun with these little multimedia works on paper! Moving paint around, adding charcoal, pastel, graphite in layers and seeing what happens.

For abstract artist Rachel Wold, art is a form of therapy, developed in response to the frantic energy of modern life. She uses expressive abstraction and a Pacific Northwest palette to explore a meditative practice. Her paintings begin intuitively, with a few tones inspired by the world around and mixed directly on the canvas. She then moves the pigment, exploring and experimenting with tactile textures or fluid splatters, adding and subtracting as a conversation unfolds between the piece and the artist. The results are immersive mood pieces that contain moments of calm and space for reflection.

Rachel's works are on view at Canary Salon in Madison Valley through the end of October.

MEET THE MAKER: Rachel Wold Art

I am an abstract artist and oceanographer in Seattle. I spent my early life drawing, painting, and exploring the Pacific Northwest but fell out of a creative lifestyle after pursuing degrees and a career in science. I wanted to get back to art but didn't know where to start. After suffering a miscarriage then post-partum depression after the birth of my second, I FINALLY picked up an old sketchbook as a way to heal. I now now make time for her art practice around her fulfilling work and raising two small children, and I want others to know it's never too late to create!
