The University of Scranton Players

The University of Scranton Players The University of Scranton Players are the co-curricular theatre group at The University of Scranton The Joseph M.

McDade Center for the Literary & Performing Arts at The University of Scranton is the home of The University of Scranton Players. Since our inception, we have made a lasting contribution to the cultural landscape of the campus and Northeastern Pennsylvania. In collaboration with The University of Scranton Theatre Program, the Players draw from a wide range of personnel to produce their annual prod

uction season. All university students are welcome to participate: theatre majors and minors as well as students from a variety of disciplines regularly staff the productions both on and off stage. Additionally, theatre professionals are regularly infused into the mix as guest artists, serving as directors, designers and performers, to enhance the educational opportunities within the program.

PLAYERS SPOTLIGHT!! 💜

Gabriella Palmer, senior English, Philalophy and Theater major AND U of S Players member gave a speech at the Weinberg Memorial Library’s Annual Environmental Art show on Tuesday. She was one of the two keynote speakers for the event. The talk entitled “Waymarks Toward Reunion: Making Beauty As a Return to the Earth” was given with Scranton Professor Dr. Patrick Beldio. talked about the way nature and the environment are present in theatrical creation in both the ways it can be sustainably created and how it can be disused both directly and indirectly in the text of a play.

Palmer discussed her latest play, “Prodigal,” which is a retelling of the biblical story of the prodigal son aimed at addressing modern issues in the Catholic Church that also incorporates the theme of harmony with nature. Aided by fellow U of S Players members Marcus Smith () and Dawson Chisholm (), Palmer read an excerpt from the play before participating in a Q and A with the audience! Congrats Gabriella!
