New artist spotlight up on our blog: Jessica Cadden Wentlent of Motion Arts, the creator behind SHE SPEAKS.

We talked to her about why she's drawn to trauma processing in her work, what "Fringe" means to an artist who says she feels claustrophobic inside anything conventional, and the very literal engineering challenge of building a set with treadmills in it.

It's a candid, thoughtful read. Full interview and tickets here: https://scrantonfringe.org/2026-scranton-fringe-festival-show-spotlights-she-speaks/

New artist spotlight up on our blog: Tom Byrn, the storyteller behind SPARK: Stories, the show built from art he's spent years pulling out of thrift stores. We talked to him about the hunt for those pieces, what "Fringe" means to a solo artist like him, and the one thing he's still not sure about heading into opening night. Happy Labor Day weekend, Scranton! πŸŽ‰ Whether you're grabbing cannoli at La Festa Italiana or checking out the trains at Railfest, this city clearly knows how to throw a festival.

Consider this your friendly reminder that the 2026 Scranton Fringe Festival is coming sooner than you think β€” ten days of theater, comedy, art, and everything in between, all across town this October. Enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see you soon.

No stage partner, no safety net β€” just Dan Kostelec, you, and a lot of audience participation. Shakespeare's "Midsummer: A Gaye Olde Tyme (Almost A Musical)!" is a multi-award-winning, one-person comedy built from 20 years of renaissance faire shows, where audience members get pulled onstage to become characters, set pieces, and even props.

We talked to Dan about diversity, ADHD, and why same-sex pairings became the comedic engine of the whole show. Frankenstein's monster meets a very personal reckoning with masculinity in post-modern prometheus, written and performed by Cesario Tirado-Ortiz. Born out of his own experience with transition and denied healthcare coverage, this pseudo one-man show mixes horror, dark comedy, and way too many movie references to ask what makes manhood viable when masculinity so easily curdles into something toxic.

We talked to Cesario about Oz, his incredible creative team, and a mattress that still hasn't found a way to get where it needs to go. Read the full spotlight on our blog. https://scrantonfringe.org/2026-scranton-fringe-festival-show-spotlights-post-modern-prometheus/

What if Ophelia got to tell her own story? Meet Heather Wallen of The Roving Peregrine Theatre Company, the writer behind "Rue" β€” a piece that weaves Shakespeare's own words into a script about rage, autonomy, and second chances for a character too often dismissed.

We sat down with Heather ahead of opening to talk about Ophelia, risk-taking, and the conversations she hopes you'll have on the car ride home from her show. Read the full spotlight on our blog: https://scrantonfringe.org/2026-scranton-fringe-festival-show-spotlights-rue/

What happens when Hamlet's most famous lines aren't delivered at you, but with you?

Meet Hilary Dennis of Junkyard Shakespeare, the multi-talented performer behind sweet prince β€” an interactive, one-woman take on Shakespeare's tragedy playing Strange Birds during the 2026 Scranton Fringe Festival.

After eight years studying the role, Hilary built a show where the audience helps shape what happens next. We talked to her about Edinburgh Fringe, breaking the actor/audience wall, and why she wanted to write this love letter to Hamlet. He knows the answer to just about any trivia question you throw at him. It's the ones that actually matter he's still working out. 🧠 Meet Jeff Wax, the performer behind The Trivia Guy, playing The Workshop this year β€” a solo show about connection, comedy, and the questions that don't come with easy answers. We sat down with him for our latest artist spotlight on the blog. Read the full Q&A here: https://scrantonfringe.org/2026-scranton-fringe-festival-show-spotlights-the-trivia-guy/
