A new Arts for Life lesson has been released with visual artist, Gina Rice! Check out her lesson, Chance Encounters - the link to access is in our bio. New lessons released every Tuesday that are free for 55+. And don't forget, previous lessons are available to watch on demand!

Chance Encounters introduces students to Dada-inspired art, where choice and chance become creative tools. Using playful, unconventional methods, participants will create a unique work of art on paper shaped as much by accident as by intention.

JUST ANNOUNCED! 🇺🇸 Join us on Friday, November 6 at 7 PM for another FREE CONCERT, this time featuring the US Army Field Band's Six-String Soldiers!

🎟 Tickets are free, but required. Limit six (6) per household. Convenience charges may apply online or by phone.

This free concert is also sponsored by LT Verrastro Inc and supported by the Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department.

ABOUT THE SIX-STRING SOLDIERS
Six-String Soldiers is a six-member country music group performing Americana and patriotic music in order to inspire a national pride in the country and help the American people have more connection to their Army. The group was formed in 2015 by active-duty Soldiers who received national media attention after a Facebook video of the group playing The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun” went viral. Since then, they have appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” “Harry” with Harry Connick Jr., and Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family.”

The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple recently completed a complete upgrade of their fire detection system. The new system will provide a dual focus for safety, as well as to help prevent unnecessary trips and evacuations, so as not to interfere with patrons’ experience.

“This service is specific and unique to performing arts centers hosting large-scale productions that include mood-enhancing fog and smoke techniques for the performance. The utilization of smoke and fog increases the chances of triggering the alarm system exponentially,” said Deborah M. Peterson, Executive Director.

The project was funded partly through a Critical Needs grant from the Scranton Area Community Foundation (SACF) in the amount of $5,000. Additional funds were awarded through a Local Share Account (LSA) Grant.

While continually maintained to ensure safety of patrons and staff, the Center’s fire detection system was last upgraded in the 1980s.

We're kicking off the Arts for Life program with performing artist, Conor McGuigan! Check out his lesson, Finding the Funny - the link to access is in our bio. We'll be sharing a new lesson every week!

Finding the Funny invites participants to cultivate humor from unlikely sources through improv, Commedia dell’Arte, and scene work—embracing a little goofiness along the way. Together, the class will use these new skills to create short scenes with improvised dialogue.
